Why Bet on the Philadelphia Eagles?
A week after nearly pulling off an upset over the defending Super Bowl champs in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Philadelphia Eagles were let down by another defeat. This time, the Las Vegas Raiders under a new head-coaching regime took down the Eagles, 33-22, to hand the boys from Philly their fifth loss in six games.
One can’t be mad about second-year quarterback Jalen Hurts’ valiant performances this season. Hurts went 18-of-34 for 236 passing yards and two touchdowns without a single pick against Vegas, snapping his streak of having been picked off to two games. Unfortunately, Philadelphia’s backfield isn’t relieving any pressure off the team’s young play-caller.
Starting running back Miles Sanders, who is week-to-week with an ankle injury, might not be able to suit up in Week 8 to further limit the offense’s ceiling. The Eagles’ offense is averaging just a little under 22 points per game over their last three outings, yet that might just be enough to get one over the winless Lions.
Why Bet on the Detroit Lions?
Another week, another heartbreaking defeat for the 0-and-7 Detroit Lions, who put up a huge fight against the Los Angeles Rams this past weekend but were still on the losing end of a 28-19 decision. It seems that whatever head coach Dan Campbell has planned for his rebuilding team this season has not panned out well, to say the least.
Save for the 41-33 loss to the 49ers on opening week, the Lions’ offense has failed to score more than 19 points in each of their next six outings. Jared Goff did not exact any revenge against his former team this past week, as Goff threw for 268 passing yards, one TD, and two INTs in Week 7’s game against the Rams. Running back D’Andre Swift actually led his team with eight catches that afternoon for 96 receiving yards and a score, which goes to show that Detroit’s dink-and-dunk offense to their backfield weapons is not an ideal recipe for success.
The Lions will not get many more opportunities this season to end their slump than this week’s matchup against the mediocre Eagles, but they’ll need to stop beating themselves and stop turning the ball over. Their 10 turnovers this season is tied for fourth-most in the NFL to date.
Eagles vs. Lions Betting Trends

- The totals went over in all five of those most recent Philadelphia vs. Detroit matchups.
- The Lions are on a seven-game home losing streak but went 4-3 against the spread in these homestands.
- The Lions are 3-2 in the last five games against teams from the NFC East (2-3 ATS).
- The totals went under in each of Detroit’s last five games in general.
Eagles vs. Lions Expert Betting Predictions
While not being the best game on the Week 7 slate, many football fans will still be interested to see if the Lions can put an end to their season-long misery with their first win of the 2021 campaign. The Eagles have the slight edge as road favorites this Sunday, but the Lions are playing with a ton of heart despite their shortcomings talent-wise to somewhat offset that advantage. In turn, Detroit is just as viable a pick to win this contest, be it against the spread or on the moneyline.
