Exploring Different Cryptocurrencies for Sports Betting

By Hank Blaine

In the old days, meaning two to three years ago, Bitcoin was the only available cryptocurrency we could use for betting. Although most crypto sportsbooks utilize mBTC as their crypto of choice, an mBTC is 1/100 0th of a Bitcoin, we can fund our crypto betting accounts with various coins.

We mustn’t stick to Bitcoin as our funding coin of choice. Check out a list of cryptocurrencies that most books allow us to use to fund our accounts.

List of Cryptocurrencies Used to Fund Betting Accounts

Bitcoin

Bitcoin will always be at the top of the list. Even after the halving, which should take place on April 20, 2024, Bitcoin will remain the top way for most sports bettors to fund their accounts. The reason is that Bitcoin is the most popular cryptocurrency, and even non-crypto sports bettors are aware of its existence.

Ethereum

Ethereum, or ETH, is the second largest cryptocurrency by market cap. ETH has the potential to overtake bitcoin as the world’s largest market cap cryptocurrency. Right now, the SEC is thinking of allowing Ethereum ETFs, which should drive up the price of ETH.

As far as betting accounts, it is possible to fund with ETH. All you must do is choose the ETH native chain when you go to deposit.

Litecoin

LTC is another current way to fund your crypto betting account. Litecoin is one of the early layer-1 blockchains that launched shortly after Bitcoin and Ethereum. LTC has a vibrant community, which is one of the reasons it remains a top 10 crypto.

Bitcoin Cash

BCH, or Bitcoin Cash, is a fork of Bitcoin. The fork had to do with disagreements regarding expanding bitcoin in 2017. Bitcoin Cash has two different cryptos, BCH and Bitcoin SV.

BCH is the coin of choice to fund your accounts. So when you decide to fund your crypto sports betting account, don’t get confused with Bitcoin SV versus BCH.

USDT

USDT is backed by Tether’s dollar reserve. It fluctuates with the U.S. dollar. It always stays at a stable 1-to-1 ratio. So if the value of the dollar goes up, the value of USDT does as well.

We can fund our sports betting accounts with USDT through the BNB (Binance) Chain BEP-20. If you have questions regarding funding with USDT, make sure to ask a client relationship rep at your crypto sportsbook of choice.
