5 College Football Win Totals to Bet On

Alabama Crimson Tide

  • 2021 College Football Win Total: 11.5

Whether you like the Crimson Tide or not, this total is high enough to go either way. Alabama should be the class of the SEC West, the Tide won’t play Georgia until the SEC Championship, and, as always, Nick Saban has brought in a dynamite recruiting class. There are knocks. Bill O’Brien flubbed big time with the Houston Texans and new quarterback Bryce Young is unproven, giving ammo to under bettors. No matter which side you fall, the total is fair, and that’s what we look for when making game total future bets.

Georgia Bulldogs

  • 2021 College Football Win Total: 10.5

Georgia must play Clemson in the first game of the season. If the Bulldogs beat Clemson, they could coast to an undefeated regular season. The rest of the schedule is close to pathetic, no Bama, no LSU, no Texas A&M, which leads us to believe oddsmakers are hanging this total on the Sep. 4 game versus the Tigers. Over looks more than possible.

Iowa State Cyclones

  • 2021 College Football Win Total: 9.5
Here’s another total that doesn’t seem right. Sure, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, West Virginia and Baylor are good teams. But Iowa State should be the class of the Big 12. Heck, Iowa State should be in line for a College Football Playoff berth. Name another squad with as many junior and senior starters, including a couple of Heisman Trophy candidates in quarterback Brock Purdy and running back Breece Hall.

Cincinnati Bearcats

  • 2021 College Football Win Total: 10

Outside of Indiana, Notre Dame, and Central Florida, the Bearcats don’t face anyone who will derail their quest to be the first team from a non-Power 5 Conference to secure a CFP bid. Cincinnati should beat at least 2-of-3, including Notre Dame who could have a disappointing season. The total doesn’t make sense because Cincinnati went 11-0 last season and returns pretty much intact on both sides of the football.

North Carolina Tar Heels

  • 2021 College Football Win Total: 10

Virginia Tech, Miami, and Notre Dame are the only teams keeping North Carolina from an undefeated regular season. Returning quarterback Sam Howell Jr. is on the short-list of potential Heisman Trophy winners. The defense is solid. UNC is another who could go over.

5 College Football Win Totals to Avoid

Ohio State Buckeyes
  • 2021 College Football Win Total: 11

Losing a quarterback like Justin Fields is a big deal. The Buckeyes play some tough games this season. Ohio State hosts Oregon, is on the road versus Minnesota, Indiana, and Michigan, and plays Penn State at home. Then again, this is the Ohio State Buckeyes, which means they could go undefeated. The problem? You’re leaving things to chance no matter whether you prefer the over or under. There’s too much up in the air with the Buckeyes to make a decision either way.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

  • 2021 College Football Win Total: 9

There are 6 games Notre Dame can lose this season: versus Wisconsin, versus Cincinnati, at Virginia Tech, versus USC, versus North Carolina, and at Stanford. But there’s no way to know how good Notre Dame will be this season. The Irish went through major changes on both sides of the ball. Going over or under is a toss-up.

Clemson Tigers

  • 2021 College Football Win Total: 11.5

Clemson must go undefeated during the regular season for this to go over. Clemson must lose to Georgia on Sep. 4 for the under to hit. Are you willing to rest your bet on a single game, the first one of the season? That’s what you’re doing if you bet over or under Clemson’s game total.

Texas A&M

  • 2021 College Football Win Total: 9.5

Like Notre Dame and Ohio State, too many changes makes this total a toss-up. Jimbo Fisher must win without Kellen Mond playing quarterback. The offensive line is brand new as well while the Aggies are at LSU, at Ole Miss, and must play Alabama. But that doesn’t mean the Aggies don’t win 10 games. When it comes to teams like A&M, Notre Dame, and Ohio State, oddsmakers are guessing. The Aggies went through too many changes to say for sure whether they’ll be good, mediocre, or bad.

Arizona Razorbacks

  • 2021 College Football Win Total: 2.5

We know the Arizona Wildcats will be terrible. But the total is in that sweet spot where we don’t know if they will go over or under. The Wildcats could lose every game this season, including their Sep. 18 matchup agianst Northern Arizona. Or U of A could beat NAU and then upset a couple of borderline Pac-12 opponents like Utah and Washington State. Who knows, which is why we should stay away from backing AZ over or under the 2.5 total.
