2022-23 NBA Season Most Profitable ATS Teams

By Jeff Stinger

It’s been a wild regular season in the NBA, with tons of moving parts and unexpected results shaking up the entire scene all the way until the very end of the campaign. In turn, betting on the games was just as unpredictable. As we’ll see below, the teams that excelled in bets against the spread are not just the top title contenders that immediately come to mind.

Nitrobetting is ready to dish out key assists and lob passes with betting tips and news coverage throughout the 2022-23 NBA season. This time, let’s recap the three teams that best performed against the betting spreads during the regular season.

Utah Jazz

  • ATS Record: 47-33-2

Despite shipping their two superstars in the offseason and narrowly missing out on the Play-In Tournament, the Jazz finished as the team with the best record against the spread. Utah covered 58.8 percent of its games played this regular season, albeit with more straight-up losses than wins. In fact, the team lost by an average of -0.9 games; only one of two teams with a negative point differential among the top 10 ATS finishers. However, it’s this narrow average deficit that gave the Jazz the commanding odds of winning against the spread regardless of their status as a favorite or underdog to win a given contest.

Philadelphia 76ers

  • ATS Record: 47-34-1

The East’s No. 3 seed, Philadelphia, happens to be the second-best team against the spread in the regular season. Philly’s average margin of victory of 4.3 points per game is ranked third among all NBA teams. This consistent form of consistently winning in a relatively convincing fashion odds-wise was enough for the Sixers to win 58 percent of their ATS matchups. If Joel Embiid needs further proof in building his case for the MVP award, one can point to the 76ers’ ATS record as evidence and an intriguing talking point overall.

Oklahoma City Thunder

  • ATS Record: 45-34-3

Barely making the West’s Play-In Tournament are the Thunder, who were underrated by fans and oddsmakers alike throughout the season. OKC won 57 percent of its games against the spread with the team often pegged as the underdog for the majority of the campaign. However, the Thunder did well enough to defy those literal odds, as they finished with the best average amount of points that a team covers the spread by at 3.1 points per game. It just goes to show that even average teams with low expectations like Oklahoma City should not be overlooked in betting propositions, especially if the spread for or against them is too favorable to pass up.
