2022 Big East Conference Championship NCAAB Odds, Info and Predictions

By Hank Blaine

Last season, Georgetown was a shocking winner of the Big East Tournament, one of the biggest long shots to win it in the conference’s history, and it got GU coach Patrick Ewing a nice new extension. That was a massive mistake by the school as the Hoyas finished last in the league this year and are one of the worst power conference teams in the country. There will be no repeat at the 2022 Big East Tournament, which begins Wednesday from Madison Square Garden in New York.

NitroBetting is ready to dish out some timely assists to our bettors all throughout the 2022 March Madness season. Be sure to check out the latest NCAAB betting odds at our online sportsbook, along with previews and betting guides.

Which of the favorites should you bet for the 2022 Big East Championship?

Providence won its first-ever Big East regular-season title but is only a +425 third favorite to win the tournament. Ed Cooley was the Big East Coach of the Year and Jared Bynum the Sixth Man of the Year. Bynum is the first Friar to earn the honor. He led the team in scoring in Big East games, averaging 15.6 ppg in 17 games. His 15.6 points per game ranked fifth in the league. He shot a team-best 46.5 percent (33-71) from behind the three-point arc in league play. Bynum also ranked third in the league in assists per game (4.9) in Big East action. In overall action, he averaged 12.9 ppg and 4.5 assists per game. He was named Big East Player of the Week twice.

Cooley guided the Friars to a 24-4 mark. In Big East league play, the Friars set a team record for wins after registering a 14-3 mark and capturing the program’s first regular-season title. The Friars were picked to finish seventh in the annual Big East Preseason Coaches’ Poll, which was released in October.

In the Friars’ 42-year history at the Big East Tournament, the team has captured the title twice – 1994 and 2014. The Friars have suffered all four of their losses this season on Tuesdays (3-4). Cooley is 14-9 all-time at Providence while coaching in Madison Square Garden.

No. 2 seed Villanova is the +150 conference title favorite. Wildcats guard Collin Gillespie was named first-team All-Big East for a second straight season. Gillespie ranks fourth in the league in scoring with a 16.3 average. He also ranks first in 3-point shooting, making 43.1 percent and is first in free throw shooting at 91.5 percent. Coach Jay Wright’s team was 2-0 vs. Providence this season but both were close. Villanova has five Big East titles and has won four of the past six.

No. 3 seed UConn catapulted up the Big East standings on the strength of a 6-2 record over their last eight games. The Huskies are +330 second favorites. UConn guard R.J. Cole and forward Adama Sanogo, the top two scorers on the team, were named to the All-Big East First Team.

Cole and Sanogo led the Huskies to a 22-8 regular-season record, the most regular-season wins since 2013-14, and to a 13-6 Big East mark, the most conference wins since 2008-09. Cole, who started all 30 games for the Huskies, led the team in scoring (15.8), assists (4.1), steals (1.2), three-pointers made (53), minutes played (33.3) and was UConn’s floor general.

Sanogo, one of five finalists for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award, was an inside force for the Huskies. He was second on the team to Cole in scoring (15.3), and led the Huskies in rebounding (8.6), offensive rebounds (3.5), and blocked shots (2.1).
