Why Caspar Ruud is a good bet to beat Rafael Nadal?

Ruud has played great tennis during the French Open. He hasn’t dominated, but he’s played well enough for a shot to take down the King of Clay. One thing about Caspar’s performance is that he’s gotten better and has made adjustments the more he’s played. In the first round, the underdog in this required seven sets to get by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

In Round 2, Ruud beat Emil Ruusuvuori in straight sets. Caspar followed a 6-set match versus Lorenzo Sonego with a 4-set victory over Hubert Hurkacz. The fact Ruud not only wins matches but finds a way to tweak his game after each victory means he should have a big shot against Nadal.

Why Rafael Nadal is a good bet to beat Caspar Ruud?

Rafael Nadal entered the 2022 French Open Tournament offering higher odds than many expected. One of the reasons is because although Rafa won the French Open in 2020, last year he failed to get by rival Novak Djokovic in the semifinals and in 2022 so far, Djokovic had been playing lights out. But Rafa beat Djoker 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) in the quarterfinals. Nadal then won the first set versus Alexander Zverev in the semifinals before Zverev had to retire due to an ankle injury.

Nadal is playing great tennis. He looks as strong as he was in 2020 when he won his thirteenth French Open title. The King of Clay should have no trouble sending young Caspar Ruud home with a finals loss.

2022 French Open Men’s Finals Betting Predictions

Ruud is an excellent tennis player and if Rafa had to work hard to dispatch of Zverev, Caspar might be an easy pick. But Nadal caught a break when Zverev twisted his ankle. There’s no telling if Zverev may have beaten Rafa. When Alexander had to retire, the score in the second set was 6-6. Based on their ages, Nadal most likely would have tired faster, which means Zverev may have gotten the edge. Caspar Ruud is a good player. But he’s not on Rafa’s level. Still, the 2021 version of Rafael Nadal isn’t the same as the version that won the title in 2020. Ruud lost the first set to Marin Cilic in the semifinals. He rallied to win three straight after the first, dominating Cilic. Caspar looks ready to take the next step. Beating the King of Clay at Roland Garros is the step he’ll take on Sunday. It won’t be easy, but Ruud can get it done.
