2022 NFL Week 10 Takeaways

By Jeff Stinger

Could this be the best Sunday slate of the 2022 NFL season? One thing’s for sure, though: Week 10 was when what many would argue was the best game of the season. And that was just one of two contests that went into the extra period and both of them had some pretty high stakes as well.

Nitrobetting is ready to equip its bettors with the latest news, NFL odds, and special features for the entire duration of the 2022 NFL season. Let’s briefly recap the most notable happenings from Week 10 with our three key takeaways from this week’s action.

Top Takeaways from 2022 NFL Week 10

Easy Game of the Year Candidate

Fans and experts alike would agree that the Week 10 showdown between the 7-1 Vikings and the 6-2 Bills was going to be a good one. Nobody foresaw that that contest would end up being the most entertaining game of the season by far.

Minnesota trailed by 17 points with two minutes left in the third quarter before rallying from behind and even gaining a three-point lead with about 40 seconds left in the game after Josh Allen lost a fumble in his own end zone that resulted in a go-ahead defensive touchdown for the Vikes. Allen would tie the game with one last drive in regulation, but the Vikes would receive the ball first in OT and score a field goal to retake the lead. Allen’s final drive of the afternoon ended on a sour note as veteran Minny cornerback Patrick Peterson picked off the early-season MVP candidate for the second time to seal the victory for the Vikes.

There were even a pair of spectacular one-handed grabs by the star wide receivers on both sides. Those were courtesy of Buffalo’s Stefon Diggs and a fourth-and-long miraculous catch by Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson to set up the Vikings in scoring range late in the fourth. Simply put, this game had every football fan on edge and will be the talk of the NFL media circus this entire week.

Rodgers Sends His Former Coach Packing in OT

The second of two overtime games in Week 9 was also a doozy, as the Cowboys looked to keep their winning ways going on the road against the struggling Packers. However, Aaron Rodgers and Co. were tired of losing and came away with a clutch victory in Lambeau.

Both teams scored four TDs apiece before heading into the extra period with Dallas getting the opening possession in OT. The Cowboys drove down the field and was faced with a tough fourth-and-3 decision; one that head coach Mike McCarthy will have to be accountable for. Instead of a relatively long field-goal attempt or punting the ball deep back for Green Bay, McCarthy decided to call an offensive play on the Packers’ 35-yard line and failed to convert on fourth down.

This gave the Packers great better field position than expected and Rodgers connected with Allen Lazard for a huge 36-yard catch to slowly set up a game-winning field goal. Not only did the Packers finally put an end to their five-game skid, but they also denied Lambeau-exiled McCarthy a win against his former team.

Indy-scribable Weekend

The Colts had themselves quite a week leading up to their Week 10 game Sunday and they can thank Saturday for their gritty win in Sin City. Jeff Saturday, that is.

Team owner Jim Irsay turned his team into an apparent joke by hiring Indianapolis’ former six-time Pro Bowl center Saturday as his team’s new head coach. And yet, they somehow pulled out a 25-20 win over the Raiders and with a returning Matt Ryan under center, all the more.

Indy also went back to the basics and fed stud running back Jonathan Taylor often. Taylor finished with 22 carries for 147 yards, with his biggest gain being a 66-yard sprint into the end zone late in the third quarter. The Colts are just two games behind the Titans for the division lead and are still somehow alive in the postseason hunt, whereas the Raiders have lost three straight and, at 2-7, could pretty much kiss their playoff dreams goodbye.
