Favorites

Alabama Crimson Tide

  • 2022 SEC Championship Odds: -152

Despite the heartbreaking loss to rival Georgia in last season’s CFP National Championship game, Nick Saban and his Crimson Tide are still the top dogs not just in the SEC, but in all of college football. With Heisman Trophy candidates in quarterback Bryce Young and stud linebacker Will Anderson returning to the gridiron in Tuscaloosa, it stands to reason that the Tide remain the consensus favorites to win the SEC title for the ninth time in the Saban regime dating back to 2009. They are one of the top favorites to get more than 10 wins this season, so they are definite favorites to take the title.

Georgia Bulldogs

  • 2022 SEC Championship Odds: +150

It was a memorable 2021 season for Georgia, to say the least, as the Bulldogs finally broke their championship-winning drought with a resounding 33-18 win over ‘Bama for their first national title since 1980. Alabama did beat Georgia for the SEC title last season, but it was the latter who got the last laugh. Kirby Smart’s 2022 squad looks very different considering the mass exodus of talent that entered a history-making NFL Draft class by the program, yet they’re still regarded as one of the best programs in the FBS thanks to Smart’s, well, exceptionally smart coaching ability.

Dark Horses

Tennessee Volunteers

  • 2022 SEC Championship Odds: +4000

The debut season of Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel was received with relative praise, as the Volunteers finished with a respectable 7-5 regular-season record. Even though the Vols lost to Purdue in a tense, high-scoring overtime thriller in the Music City Bowl, there’s plenty of optimism that they have a decent shot of upending the Tide and the Bulldogs for SEC supremacy. It all starts with what should be another terrific campaign from sleeper Heisman candidate and starting QB Hendon Hooker, who threw for 31 touchdowns to just three interceptions and ran for five more TDs on the ground in his first year in Tennessee as a transfer from Virginia Tech.

Florida Gators

  • 2022 SEC Championship Odds: +4000

The Gators needed a change at the helm, and former Louisiana head coach Billy Napier got the job in Gainsville in hopes of turning things around this year. Napier learned a lot being a coaching staff member of both Alabama and Clemson before leading the Ragin’ Cajuns to two Sun Belt conference titles, a pair of Bowl-game victories, and a combined record of 22-2 over the last two seasons. Ohio State transfer QB Jack Miller III could very well turn Florida from a sleeper to a champion should incumbent starter Anthony Richardson fail to impress his new coach.

Huge Reach

Auburn Tigers

  • 2022 SEC Championship Odds: +12500

Head coach Bryan Harsin’s debut at the helm of Auburn last season was met with mixed reviews. The Tigers finished with a 6-7 record and lost 17-13 to Houston in crushing fashion at the Birmingham Bowl to cap their 2021 season on a five-game losing streak. Not even their almost-upset of ‘Bama in November’s Iron Bowl showdown overtime thriller is enough to vault the Tigers past the longshot mark in terms of reclaiming the SEC title for the first time since 2013.
