Oklahoma Sooners

Despite being the odds-on favorites to win the Big 12 title as we speak, the Sooners do have the odds stacked against them in other aspects. Brent Venables will be a head coach for the first time in his career after several remarkable seasons as an assistant at Clemson. Quarterback transfer Dillion Gabriel is also expected to make an immediate impact coming from UCF. Nevertheless, Oklahoma’s winning culture should still prevail to possibly take the team back to the conference title game in 2022.
Texas Longhorns

Speaking of QB transferees making their way to the Big 12, former Ohio State play-caller Quinn Ewers will make his debut for the Longhorns this season in hopes of turning the program around in Steve Sarkisian’s second year at the helm. Texas also boasts one of the most imposing running backs in college football in Bijan Robinson, who should make Ewers’ transition to Austin a more effortless matter. All things considered, the Longhorns are also well-positioned odds-wise to win a Big 12 title for the first time since 2009.

Kansas State Wildcats

Kansas State is in a similar position as Texas before it, with both teams seeking help at quarterback outside their respective programs. Adrian Martinez joins the Wildcats in 2022 coming from Nebraska, where Martinez only had one solid season for the Cornhuskers as a rookie. Then again, KSU also has arguably the second-best running back in the conference behind Bijan Robinson in Deuce Vaughn. With a seemingly potent offense back for another run, Kansas State is a trendy sleeper pick to beat out the rest of the Big 12 for the conference crown.
Iowa State Cyclones

With notable departures in stud back Breece Hall and quarterback Brock Purdy, the Cyclones are facing an uphill battle this season. Still, head coach Matt Campbell has done an amazing job keeping Iowa State in the mix in the race for the conference title, posting winning seasons in each of the last five years. On the other hand, having only three starters returning in 2022 also hurts the team’s stock, which is why the Cyclones aren’t seen as more than a sleeper candidate to win the Big 12 this season.

Kansas Jayhawks

The Jayhawks did pull off a huge upset over the Longhorns in 2021 thanks to a flash of brilliance by incumbent starting QB Jalon Daniels. Unfortunately, there’s no reason for fans to believe that the Jayhawks are more than longshots to win the Big 12 title this season given their extended period of futility that has yet to end.
