2022 F1 Azerbaijan GP Recap
Like in most F1 events in 2022, Max Verstappen dominated. The Red Bull driver scored another victory, this time beating teammate Sergio Perez by over 20 seconds.
Perez provided an excellent performance. Sergio was close to 26 seconds ahead of third place finisher George Russell.
Lewis Hamilton finished fourth. Pierre Gasly finished fifth.

After just three races, it’s apparent that Max Verstappen is going to have another amazing Formula 1 season. Verstappen has won 2-of-3.
On Sunday, Max throws down over a track where he’s had great success, the Baku City Circuit. In last year’s race, Verstappen started third behind Perez and pole sitter Charles Leclerc.
So even if Max doesn’t grab the pole for Sunday’s race, he’s still the one to beat. Although the odds aren’t attractive, Verstappen is again dominating. So laying the -280 is the way to go.

Supposedly, Ferrari was going to make 2023 their bounce back year. So far, it’s been all Red Bull.
Sergio Perez finished second at the Gulf Air Bahrain GP. In the next race, the STC Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Sergio grabbed he checkered flag ahead of teammate Max Verstappen.
Sergio finished fifth in Australia, which could be a sign his form has turned south. However, the race happened back on April 1. Plenty of time has passed for Perez and his crew to have figured out the adjustments that could lead to a win on Sunday.

Lewis Hamilton finished seventh in this last year. He should improve upon the finish, no problem. The key for a victory rests in where he starts and whether he’s focused enough to beat Perez and Verstappen.
In the last event, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Hamilton crossed the finish line second ahead of surprising Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso. If the third choice and his crew used the three week layoff to get the car ready for Sunday, who knows?
Mercedes had a disappointing 2022. It’s still early enough for the constructor and their top driver to make amends in 2023.
Top Underdog Pick to Win the 2023 Azerbaijan Grand Prix
Pierre Gassly finished ninth at Bahrain, ninth at Saudi Arabia, and thirteenth at Australia. The finishes explain why Pierre is such a huge underdog.
But before saying Gassly has no shot, it’s important to note that he finished fifth in this last season. Gasly was more than a minute and 17 seconds behind Verstappen.
That’s a lot of time to make up. Again, we’re not going to say he wins, but last year’s finish gives him a shot and at +50000 odds, can we really expect a victory? If you want to take a huge swing, consider putting money behind Pierre Gassly.
