2022 Masters Tournament Recap
Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, this year’s favorites to win the tournament, finished 1-2 at last year’s Masters. Scheffler shot a -10 to beat Rory by 3 strokes.
Shane Lowry and Cameron Smith finished a tied fourth after both shot a -5. Fifth place went to Collin Morikawa who stepped off the Augusta National Course with a -4.
Corey Connors and Will Zalatoris tied for sixth. Both shot -3.
2023 Masters Tournament Top Pick
It’s tough to win two Masters in back-to-back years, but Scottie Scheffler is a different kind of golfer. In his last few tournaments played, Scottie has rocked.
Scheffler won the Phoenix Open and then finished twelfth at the Genesis. His tied fourth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational proved he’s in excellent form.
The win at The Players Championship means Scottie can pretty much turn it on whenever he feels like it. Scheffler will be looking for a second straight green jacket. It’s going to be difficult for any of his opponents to keep him from it.
2023 Masters Tournament Second Pick
JT finished at -1 and a tied eighth at the 2022 Master Tournament. For sure, he can improve upon that score.
Justin Thomas tuned up nicely for this, finishing a tied tenth at the Valspar Championship. He should have no trouble hitting the fairways. Also, his iron game has been great.
The one concern is his short game. If JT putts well, he will challenge Scheffler for the win.
2023 Masters Tournament Third Pick
Xander Schauffele’s performance at the Masters last season leaves much to be desired. Schauffele shot a 74 first round and a 77 second round to miss the cut.
Schauffele shouldn’t come close to shooting that badly this week. Xander finished a tied thirty-ninth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He bounce back at The Players Championship, finishing a tied nineteenth.
What to notice about Xander’s performance at TPC-Sawgrass is how he shot a 69-68 on Saturday and Sunday after shooting a 71-73 on Thursday and Friday. Schauffele’s sticks appear to be rounding into form.
2023 Masters Tournament Underdog Pick
A few breaks last year and Corey Connors might have worn the green jacket. The top underdog play to win the 2023 Masters played great over this course when shooting a -3.
This season, Corey heads to Augusta National hot. Connors won the Valero Texas Open last week. If he maintains his excellent form, he for sure could win his first major title of his career.
