2023 NFL Week 4 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Picks

By Jeff Stinger

It was a relatively high-scoring Week 3 across the board and it was a very entertaining slate of action indeed as well in the fantasy football realm. That also means there are plenty of superb waiver wire targets to choose from, so it’s time to line up those waiver acquisitions in hopes of picking up one or more of the players listed below.

Nitrobetting is here to take your bets into the end zone this 2023 NFL season. Let’s take a closer look at the hottest waiver wire targets in fantasy football heading into Week 4.

Top Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Targets in 2023 NFL Week 4

Quarterback

C.J. Stroud – Texans

  • Pct. Owned: 11.2%

As bad as the Texans have looked early on, there are still some fantasy gems to be found on their roster, particularly one in the form of rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud. Houston has been forced to throw the ball often in any given situation and the second-overall pick out of Ohio State has lived up to his high draft capital already.

Over the last two games, Stroud has thrown for at least 280 yards and two passing touchdowns. His 20 fantasy points make for a decent floor of production for those who did not take a high-profile QB in the draft, and it also doesn’t hurt that he’s yet to throw an interception through his first three games as a pro. Stroud also set a new league record with his 906 passing yards in his first three NFL starts, and it’s only a matter of time before he turns those yards into actual TDs to further boost his fantasy value.

Running Back

De’Von Achane – Dolphins

  • Pct. Owned: 16.1%

The Dolphins had a historic offensive performance this past Sunday, dropping 70 points on the hapless Broncos. Among the highlights from that offensive explosion was rookie running back De’Von Achane, who ran for a whopping 203 rushing yards and a total of four (four!) touchdowns; two on the ground and two through the air.

To put things into perspective, that’s a staggering 51 fantasy points in full-PPR scoring leagues! Although Achane won’t likely top that kind of production anytime soon or if ever again, he’s certainly the belle of the fantasy waiver ball this week indeed, being owned in less than a fifth of fantasy leagues. The third-round pick out of Texas A&M is still a worthy pickup and viable flex start this week even if he’s sharing reps with the much-older Raheem Mostert, and the tough road matchup ahead as the Dolphins take on the Bills as (+2.5) road dogs.

Melvin Gordon III – Ravens

  • Pct. Owned: 1.3%

The less-sexier pick of an RB worth claiming off of waivers this week is more of a depth play for those who are struggling with the Ravens’ backfield situation. Veteran Melvin Gordon III was called to action in Week 3, playing in 40 percent of Baltimore’s offensive snaps and finished with 32 rushing yards on 10 carries, while also hauling in two catches for 23 passing yards.

While those numbers aren’t very encouraging on paper, it’s Gordon’s situation that makes him a compelling pickup on the waiver wire as a stash for the immediate future. Gus Edwards will need to clear the concussion protocol and history has proven that most NFL players take at least the first week off of such a head injury. Meanwhile, Justice Hill is also questionable for Week 4 with a toe injury. As such, Gordon could end up getting the most opportunities out of the Ravens’ backfield that’s benefitted nicely from the team’s strong run-blocking offensive line.

Wide Receiver

Romero Doubs – Packers

  • Pct. Owned: 27.1%

We’ve touted Packers quarterback Jordan Love in our previous weekly fantasy waiver wire column, and now it’s time to spread that love to one of Love’s favorite targets in the end zone of late. 23-year-old wideout Romeo Doubs caught his third pass of the season in Week 3, finishing with season-bests of 12 targets, five catches, and 73 receiving yards.

Green Bay hasn’t stopped throwing the ball and testing Love’s upside in the deep passing game. Doubs will get a fantastic opportunity to keep topping his previous highs, as the Packers are set for a blockbuster divisional matchup against the Lions. Be sure to act quickly on the waiver wires, though, as this predictably high-scoring AFC North battle is slated for Thursday Night Football.

Joshua Palmer – Chargers

  • Pct. Owned: 0.7%

Owned in less than one percent of fantasy leagues, Chargers wideout Joshua Palmer will be another sought-after WR3/FLEX option that’s in line for a big game in Week 4. Los Angeles’ passing offense is really getting revved up and that trend should continue with the Bolts favored to win two in a row as (-5.5) favorites at home facing a porous Raiders defense.

Palmer also set new season highs for himself this past weekend, seeing seven targets from Justin Herbert with four receptions for 66 receiving yards and a TD. The former third-overall pick out of Tennessee has slowly gotten more involved in the action, as he now has 12 targets and seven catches over his last two outings, and that trend is bound to continue as Herbert steadily regains his Pro Bowl form.

Tight End

Jake Ferguson – Cowboys

  • Pct. Owned: 19.8%

Although Dallas tight end Jake Ferguson didn’t find the end zone for the second straight week, and the Cowboys ultimately lost in a humbling upset at the hands of the lowly Cardinals, there’s still plenty of upside to be had based on what we’ve seen out of the former Wisconsin standout.

In Week 3, Ferguson finished with seven targets for the second time this season. He also got more than merely 11 receiving yards like his last two outputs, turning those seven targets in Week 2 into five receptions for 48 yards. He has now proven that he’s not just a decent end-zone option for Dak Prescott, but also a vital mid-range threat in the passing game. One would be hard-pressed to find more competent TE1 options in fantasy, and Ferguson is definitely worth a look in deeper leagues regardless of the scoring format.
