Although two of the last four installments of the U.S. Open were held in the state of California, this is the first time since 1995 that Los Angeles is hosting a major PGA TOUR event (the 1995 PGA Championship) and the city’s first U.S. Open in 75 years.
A massive prize purse worth $17.5 million is estimated to be the total payout for this year’s U.S. Open. This purse could increase in the coming days when the tournament officially starts on June 15, with some experts predicting that the event will end up with a staggering $20 million payout when everything is accounted for.
