2023 World Series Odds Midseason Update

By Jeff Stinger

With the 2023 MLB All-Star Game now in the books, it’s a good time to see where things stand in the league at the midway point of the 2023 season. There are two strong contenders for the league championship emerging in both the American and National League, but there’s still half a baseball campaign to go and there are other sleepers ready to make a postseason push just waiting in the wings.

Nitrobetting is ready to lend a hand to its bettors with their winning bets to be shot out of the park. This time, let’s take a closer look at the frontrunners and dark horses in the running for the 2023 MLB World Series title along with their current odds of becoming baseball’s ultimate champion this year.

2023 World Series Odds Update

There are not lines

Favorites to Win the 2023 World Series

Atlanta Braves

After a relatively slow start to the season, the Braves have suddenly caught fire entering the All-Star Break, winning 20 of their last 23 games and now have a sizeable 8.5-game lead in the NL East pennant race. Atlanta is excelling on both sides of the ball despite some key injuries, especially in pitching. Not only are the Braves leading the majors in home runs and OPS, but their 3.63 team ERA is also tops in the big leagues to solidify their case as the odds-on favorite to win their second World Series title in three years.

Tampa Bay Rays

Although the Rays currently share the same odds to win the World Series as the Dodgers, they’re still widely regarded as the best team in the AL. They’ve had the best record in all of MLB for the majority of the season despite having one of the lowest payrolls in the league, as their blooming superstars in Randy Arozarena, Wander Franco, and Yandy Diaz continue to shine. However, a seven-game skid before the All-Star Break is quite concerning for a spirited Tampa team that simply knows how to do more with less.

Dark Horses to Win the 2023 World Series

Minnesota Twins

There’s a wide-open race for the AL Central crown and the Twins are currently battling it out with the Guardians with the two separated by only half a game to date. Minnesota has a terrific pitching staff as their starters combined for a 3.64 ERA, which is second-best in the majors. What’s holding Minny back, though, is its offense that has seen its lynchpins Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton having underwhelming first halves. Nevertheless, the Twins are in a decent position to become a sneaky sleeper pick to win the World Series for as long as they can fix their issues on offense.

Arizona Diamondbacks

Speaking of crowded division races, the Diamondbacks are now fighting it out with the Dodgers and the Giants for the NL West pennant. Arizona emerged as more than a trendy sleeper pick to be a wild-card team into being tied with Los Angeles for the division lead at the break. Starting rotation ace Zac Gallen (11-3, 3.04 ERA) is a Cy Young candidate, while 22-year-old five-tool outfielder Corbin Carroll is winning some votes for this year’s NL MVP. The D-backs are scary good and would likely have better odds if they were in another National League division, but we’ll still take these current sleeper odds any day for sheer upside potential.

Huge Reach to Win the 2023 World Series

St. Louis Cardinals

It’s getting uglier by the minute for the once-feared Cardinals, who’ve now sunk to the bottom of the NL Central standings and are now 14 games below .500. St. Louis’ pitching has been atrocious, ranking in the bottom five of the league in ERA to squander an above-average offense that’s recently gotten back in the groove. Like the Chicago White Sox, the Cards have been one of, if not the most disappointing team this season. Their status as long shots to bring back the World Series title to the Lou means that they’ll likely be active sellers leading up to the trade deadline to set up a rebuilding phase for the 2024 campaign instead.
