Top Pick to Win the 2024 F1 Season
It’s easy to buy into the hype regarding McLaren, which is the main reason Lando Norris, McLaren’s top driver, is the pick. But it also helps that Verstappen offers a ridiculous -370 to win a fourth straight title.
The odds make Max unplayable to take the championship. The odds are really underlaid considering that Rob Marshall, Red Bull’s technical chief, bolted to McLaren. Marshall isn’t the only one to go to McLaren, though. So did Ferrari’s former engineer David Sanchez.
As soon as Marshall made landed with McLaren over the summer, Norris began to perform better. Lando scored four second place, two fifth place, and a third place finish in the final seven F1 races.
Marshall’s and Sanchez’s impact should be even more pronounced come March, which makes Norris the to pick to upset Verstappen’s winning streak.
Second Pick to Win the 2024 F1 Season
Even if Marshall and Sanchez help Norris in a big way, it may not be enough to get to Max Verstappen. The Red Bull driver has won three straight championships by daylight due to his excellent driving skills and Adrian Newey, the head of Red Bull’s engineering department.
Newey is the brains behind Verstappen’s car. So as long as Newey calls Red Bull home, Verstappen will be difficult to beat. If the odds were kinder, -150 or even -175, Max would be the top pick. At -370, he’s tough to endorse, but nobody would be surprised if he lifted his fourth straight trophy.
Third Pick to Win the 2024 F1 Season
McLaren’s second driver will have a big chance if Marshall’s and Sanchez’s genius carries over to his ride. Oscar Piastri, for sure, is the McLaren’s B driver, but that may not matter if the two new engineers at McLaren pay as much attention to Piastri’s vehicle as they do Norris’s.
Piastri’s top two finished in 2023 was a second in Qatar and a third in Japan. So there’s work to be done. Piastri and his crew can get it done, though, if, again, Marshall and Sanchez give his ride enough attention.
Top Underdog Pick to Win the 2024 F1 Season
Verstappen is such a big time chalk that anybody after Max, maybe even including Lando Norris, offers a terrific payout. Ferrari hasn’t had a lot of success, but they are Ferrari.
Eventually, Ferrari will get it together. There were signs towards last season that Ferrari would bounce back in 2024. Charles Leclerc finished second in both Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi. If Charles carries momentum from those finishes into the first race in March, Leclerc could have a great season.
