ATP – 2024 French Open Semifinals

Carlos Alcaraz vs. Jannik Sinner

The semifinal on the men’s side that is set pits two of the last three remaining top seeds now that Novak Djokovic yielded his quarterfinals match versus Casper Ruud. Alcaraz, no doubt, is going to be a slight chalk once oddsmakers set a line.

Carlos is playing fantastic tennis. He required 3 sets and a tiebreaker to get by Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarters. Still, Tsitsipas is one of the better players on the ATP. Also, Alcaraz has beaten 3 seeded players. He also took down Felix Auger-Aliassime and Sebastian Korda so far in this tournament.

But although Alcaraz is playing great, he’s up against it versus the Australian Open champ. Jannik Sinner is 28-2 in singles matches this season. He beat 10-seed Grigor Dimitrov in his last. In 5 matches at this year’s French Open, Sinner has played a fourth set just twice. Jannik gets it done.

Casper Ruud vs Alexander Zverev/Alex de Minaur

Ruud won a walkover. So it’s difficult to gauge how well he might have done had Novak Djokovic been able to play the entire match.

Still, Ruud is in the semifinals. So although Ruud didn’t beat Djoker, we must give him props. In his fourth round match, Ruud took down Taylor Fritz after four sets and a tiebreaker in the first set.

Ruud should face Alexander Zverev on Thursday. Although Zverev required 5 sets and a tiebreaker against both Tallon Griekspoor in the third round and Holger Rune in the fourth, He’s got the look of a determined player. Zverev won’t allow de Minaur to beat him.

In a battle between Zverev and Ruud, we must go with Casper. The likely chalk in the matchup will be too well rested to fall to his opponent.

Iga Swiatek vs. Cori Gauff

Iga Swiatek versus Cori Gauff should be a highly entertaining match. Coco has played excellent tennis. The fourth round victory over Ons Jabeur was the first match where Gauff had to play a third set. Before taking on Jabeur, Coco rolled through her opponents in straight sets.

The last time these two met, Iga Swiatek got the win. Save for losing a set to Naomi Osaka in the second round, Swiatek has dominated her opponents. So although Gauff has a shot, it’s going to be ultra tough to beat the best player in the world.

Jasmine Paolini / Elena Rybakina vs. Mirra Andreeva / Aryna Sabalenka

Rybakina beats Polini and Sabalenka takes down Andreeva in their quarterfinal matches to set up what should be an awesome semifinal. Sabalenka will be the favorite. Aryna should be, considering how well she disposed of her first four opponents. Aryna has yet to lose a set at the French Open.

Rybakina has matched Sabalenka’s brilliance. Elena, like Aryna, has yet to lose a set. Not only has Rybakina not lost a set, but she’s faced stiffer competition like 25 seed Elise Mertens and 15 seed Elina Svitolina. This will go to a third set that Elena Rybakina, the projected underdog, wins.
