Baltimore Ravens 2023 Straight-Up Overview

After Lamar asked to be traded, Baltimore’s brass didn’t panic. Instead, they let things settle and handed Jackson a five-year $260 million deal. The contract makes Lamar the highest-paid player in NFL history.

No matter what you think of the contract, the Edgar Allan Poes had to retain Jackson as their quarterback. Without Lamar, the Ravens can’t score.

But Baltimore didn’t just decide to resign Lamar and sit on their hands. Instead, Jackson and Baltimore’s front office recruited Odell Beckham Jr. The former New York Giants, Los Angeles Rams, and Cleveland Browns wide receiver sat out 2022.

For sure, Odell has some catching up to do, but if he’s 80% of what he was before the injury in Super Bowl 56 while playing with the Rams, the Ravens will have one of the best receivers in their franchise’s history.

The thing to know about Odell is that he will make Lamar a better passer, which means Mark Andrews, who already was one of the top three tight-ends in the league, will flourish. Not only that, but J.K. Dobbins is healthy. Beckham Jr., Dobbins, Andrews and top five quarterback Jackson means Baltimore’s offense should have no trouble scoring against any team in the league.

The defense should also have improved. Although the D allowed 232.2 passing yards per game last season, John Harbaugh didn’t acquire Roquan Smith until the middle of the season. Smith signed a long-term deal with the Ravens.

To make things more intriguing, the Ravens also resigned Patrick Queen, a player many thought they’d allow to leave in free agency. Former Raider Rock Ya-Sin is a good corner. Rock will take pressure off Marlon Humphrey.

Because of the upgrades on offense and defense, the Ravens should be one of the AFC’s better teams. Road losses to the Bengals, the rival Steelers, the Jaguars, and the 49ers may be the only blemishes on Baltimore’s straight up record.

Baltimore Ravens 2023 SU Record Prediction: 13-4

Baltimore Ravens 2023 Against the Spread Overview

The Ravens had a wild against the spread record in 2022. Baltimore went 6-9-2. The Ravens won’t go 6-9-2 again.

The word is out on Baltimore’s improvements. The Ravens have a serious shot of winning the AFC North, the conference, and the Super Bowl. Oddsmakers know this. So we should expect a 9-8 or 8-9 ATS record. Let’s go 8-9 since Baltimore should be overplayed in most of their games.

Baltimore Ravens ATS Record Prediction: 8-9

Buffalo Bills 2023 Over/Under Overview

The Ravens for sure will score more points. But game totals won’t skew towards over because oddsmakers will set tough totals for the over to hit.

Another reason to believe game totals don’t skew too much to the over is because Baltimore’s defense ranked third in points allowed last season. The Ravens should give up around 18.3 points per again this season. Expect the over under to be more in line with what we expect, 9-8 or 8-9, in a contrast to the 5-12 over-to-under in 2022.

Baltimore Ravens 2023 Over/Under Record Prediction: 9-8
