UFC 282 Main Card Preview

Bryce Mitchell vs. Ilia Topuria

Topuria will enter the Octagon with an undefeated 12-0 record, which explains why Ilia is the slight favorite over Mitchell. Not only that, but Topuria has won 4 of his last 5 bouts via either knockout or technical knockout and is 7-0 via submission victories.

Bryce Mitchell has a single loss on his record. Mitchell has won 4-of-5 via unanimous decision. Like Topuria, Mitchell has an excellent ground game. If Ilia gets off a few decent shots in the standup, he’ll win. Bryce knows that, so, we must expect Mitchell to be ready. Backing the dog makes sense.

UFC 282 Pick: Bryce Mitchell

Darren Till vs. Dricus du Plessis

Underdog Darren Till isn’t in great form. Till has lost 4-of-5. But before writing off the dog, it’s important to note that Till has fought just twice since 2019 and he hasn’t fought yet in 2022. So, maybe, Till is finally healthy from whatever kept him out of the Octagon for most of 2020, most of 2021, and so far all of this year.

Dricus Plessis has a 17-2 record and is on a 5-match winning streak. Three fights back, Plessis began his career at UFC after fighting at KSW. So far so good. Dricus is 3-0 in his UFC fights. Till can beat Plessis on his best day. Doubtful Darren has his best day on Saturday.

UFC 282 Pick: Dricus du Plessis

Santiago Ponzinibbio vs. Alex Morono

The -180 chalk is 15-3 in KO/TKO wins, 6-0 in submission victories, and 29-6 overall. Ponzinibbio has 1-inch advantages in height and reach.

Dog Alex Moreno is 22-7 overall, 6-0 via submission wins, and 6-2 via TKO or KO victories. Moreno is on a 4-match winning streak. Ponzinibbio has lost 3-of-4. Santiago is good enough to win this, but the odds make the dog the play.

UFC 282 Pick: Alex Morono

Paddy Pimblett vs. Jared Gordon

There’s a reason a quality fighter like Jared Gordon is such a big time underdog versus Paddy Pimblett. Pimblett has the better record, 19-3 to 19-5, and physical advantages.

Paddy has an inch height advantage and a 5-inch reach advantage. Also, Paddy hasn’t lost since 2018, winning 5 straight contests. Gordon has won 4-of-5. But Jared is taking a big step up versus Pimblett. Paddy gets it done.

UFC 282 Pick: Paddy Pimblett

Jan Blachowicz vs. Magomed Ankalaev

Ankalaev versus Blachowicz is such a tremendous fight that it headlines UFC 282 even though no strap is on the line. The underdog in the bout has won 4 of his last 5. Blachowicz lost his last bout via KO/TKO to Aleksandar Rakic.

Ankalaev hasn’t lost since 2018. Since then, he has destroyed his opponents. Blachowicz has the talent to win this. But he didn’t look great in the loss to Rakic. Magomed gets the nod.

UFC 282 Pick: Magomed Ankalaev<
