Top Boxing Betting Picks of the Week – January 15th, 2024

By Hank Blaine

Three boxing title fights take place this week, one on Saturday, and a couple on Tuesday night. On Saturday, Natasha Jones is the -130 favorite versus Mikaela Mayer in the main event on an ESPN+ card in Liverpool. Then on Tuesday night, Artem Dalakian battles Yuri Akui Seigo and Kenshiro Teraji goes against Carlos Canizales in a couple of flyweight level title bouts in Osaka, Japan. Check out boxing odds, analysis, and free picks for five of this week’s best matches.

Top Boxing Betting Picks of the Week (January 15th, 2024)

Jonas vs. Mayer – M&S Bank Arena, Liverpool, England (NBC Sports)

  • When: Saturday, January 20th, 2024. 3:00pm ET

Mark Jeffers vs. Germaine Brown // English Super Middleweight Title

Underdog Germaine Brown is 13-2. Brown has a decent overall record, but he’s stopped just 4 fighters before the final bell, which means Germaine lacks power.

Mark Jeffers is 16-0. Like Brown, Jeffers doesn’t have much power. Jeffers has knocked out just 4 opponents exactly like Brown has. But although Jeffers doesn’t have power, he beat Zak Chelli while Brown lost to Chelli.

Brown’s last win against Ashley Baily-Dumetz doesn’t impress. The favorite gets the nod.

Boxing Betting Pick: Mark Jeffers -425

Jack Cullen vs. Zak Chelli // British, Commonwealth Super Middleweight Title

Chelli versus Cullen should be a decent bout. The aforementioned Chelli is 14-2-1 with 7 stoppage victories. Chelli bounced back from a loss against Mark Jeffers to beat Jordan Grannum via fourth round knockout.

Grannum had an 8-124-5 record at the time. So Chelli’s victory is meaningless versus 22-4-1 Jack Cullen. Cullen beat Mark Heffron in his last. The step up won’t help Chelli. At -135, Cullen is a slight overlay.

Boxing Betting Pick: Jack Cullen -135

Natasha Jonas vs. Mikaela Mayer // IBF World Female Welterweight Title

It’s not often that Mayer is an underdog. Since a loss to Alycia Baumgardner in 2022, Mayer beat Lucy Wildheart and Silvia Bortot.

Natasha Jones is 14-2-1 with 9 stoppage victories. Jones hasn’t lost since dropping a match to Katie Taylor back in 2021. This should be a terrific bout, which is why the odds are just -130 in favor of Jones. At those odds, Mayer is the pick.

Boxing Betting Pick: Mikaela Mayer +100

Kenshiro vs. Canizales – Edion Arena, Osaka, Japan (ESPN+)

  • When: Tuesday, January 23rd, 2024. 7:00am ET

Artem Dalakian vs. Yuri Akui Seigo // WBA World Flyweight Title

Artem Dalakian is 22-0 with 15 stoppage wins. Dalakian comes from the Ukrainian school of boxing where Lomachenko and the Klitschko brothers honed their craft.

Dalakian is in a long line of terrific fighters. But on Tuesday night, the -105 dog takes on a Yuri Akui Seigo in Seigo’s backyard.

The 18-2-1 boxer has taken 6 straight since the last loss. Still, this is a step up in class versus Dalakian. Home ring advantage means something. It doesn’t mean that much.

Boxing Betting Pick: Artem Dalakian -105

Kenshiro Teraji vs. Carlos Canizales // Ring Magazine, WBC, WBA Light Flyweight Title

Kenshiro Teraji is a -800 chalk, which implies Carlos Canizales has almost zero shot of beating the favorite. Teraji has fought the much better opponents. So he wins this.

The question is does Kenshiro end Canizales’ night before the eleventh? The answer is yes. Canizales has 26 victories. He’s knocked out 19 of his opponents, which tells us the underdog isn’t afraid to mix it up.

Teraji gets the win no later than the night round. Back under to cash.

Boxing Betting Pick: Under 10.5
