Clippers vs. Suns NBA Playoffs Odds and Game 5 Preview – June 28th, 2021

By Carlos Chacon

The LA Clippers hit the road to face the Phoenix Suns at the Phoenix Suns arena in a must-win Game 5. After losing Game 4 in an 84-80 thriller, it’s crunch time for Tyronn Lue and company as they try to cling onto their NBA Finals dreams. The Suns currently ride a comfortable 3-1 lead in the Western Conference Finals and will be looking to close out the series in front of their home crowd on Monday night.

Thanks to DeAndre Ayton, the Suns were able to maintain the lead despite a hard-charging Clippers side. The 22-year-old big man contributed 19 points while collecting 22 rebounds along the way. On the other hand, Paul George remains under the spotlight as many anticipate what the star player brings to the table on game day.

Why Bet on the Los Angeles Clippers?

The LA Clippers went through a horrible shooting night in Game 4. Paul George and the rest of the squad combined to shoot 36% from the field. The team made 31 of 86 shots and four of 20 attempts from beyond the arc. To add insult to injury, the team committed 14 turnovers in the entire game.

Despite closing down the 14 point lead in the third quarter, poor shooting held back the Clippers from tying the series. Paul George and Reggie Jackson recorded 23 and 20 points, respectively, but their inefficient shooting allowed the Suns to stay ahead of the game.

Although they performed well without Kawhi Leonard in the second round against the Utah Jazz the Clippers will have to be at their very best in this do-or-die situation. Since losing the first two games, the Clippers bounced back and matched the Suns in average points and rebounds in the series. If they improve on their shooting as well as free throws in Game 5, there’s a good chance that they stretch the series back to their home court.

Why Bet on the Phoenix Suns?

Meanwhile, Monty Williams’ team is a victory away from advancing to the 2021 NBA Finals. It’s been over two decades since the Suns made it to the NBA finals, and everyone is excited to see how the team performs. After showcasing the brilliant duo of Chris Paul and Devin Booker, the Suns established a solid backcourt that works well with DeAndre Ayton, Jae Crowder, and the rest of the role players.

And although this team is relatively inexperienced in the playoffs, CP3’s leadership made sure that the team stayed on point after the regular season and continued to be a threat on both ends of the court.

Following his stellar 40-point Game 1 of the series, Devin Booker went under the radar. There’s a possibility that he is playing through an injury, but he can take some of the scoring load off his shoulders with Paul back on the court and continue to build back his form. Nonetheless, the Suns need him at his best come Monday night.

Clippers vs. Suns Betting Trends

  • The Clippers are 4-6 in their last 10 away games.
  • The Clippers are 3-2 against the spread in their last 5 games.
  • The totals have gone over in 5 of the Clippers’ last 10 games.
  • The Suns are 5-0 in their last 5 home games.
  • The Suns are 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 home games.
  • The totals have gone under in 3 of the Suns’ last 5 games.

Clippers vs. Suns Expert Betting Prediction

The Phoenix Suns, thanks to home-court advantage and their current form, are the favorites to take Game 5 and complete the gentleman’s sweep. If they can produce another game reminiscent of the first two games of the series, this might be the last time we see the Clippers in the 2020-21 NBA playoffs.

However, if Paul George can light up the court once again, he can extend the series and force a Game 6 and 7. The Clippers can cover the spread, which means they are within reach of a win if their strategy chances go according to plan.
