Why Bet on the Dallas Cowboys?

Following Week 3’s disastrous upset defeat at the hands of the Cardinals, the Dallas Cowboys got back on the right track with another emphatic victory in Week 4 by taking out the New England Patriots at home, 38-3. Dallas just handed legendary Patriots head coach Bill Belichick his worst defeat ever, as Dak Prescott and Co. take their frustrations out on the hapless Pats.

In their three wins this season, the Cowboys have outscored their opponents by a combined 108-13. Granted, those wins were over the likes of underperforming teams like the Giants, Jets, and Patriots. Nonetheless, Prescott looked sharp under center, throwing only six incompletions in 34 pass attempts for 261 yards against New England.

Above all else, Dallas’ defense regained its mojo in the wake of star cornerback Trevon Diggs’ season-ending ACL injury. The Cowboys have the fifth-most sacks this season thus far (15) and their D ranks tops in scoring defense, allowing just an average of 10.3 points per game to the opposition. This stop unit will be put to the ultimate test for the first time this season as it tries to contain a prolific San Fran offense.

Why Bet on the Pittsburgh Steelers?

Before the Cowboys have to worry about catching up with the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC East lead, they’ll have to worry about another unbeaten force in Week 5. The San Francisco 49ers made quick work of their own division rivals this past weekend, routing the Arizona Cardinals, 35-16.

San Francisco is averaging 31.3 points per contest, which is second in the league only behind the Dolphins, who had their numbers skewed thanks to last week’s 70-point demolition. Superstar running back Christian McCaffrey made his case as the front-runner for the NFL MVP award, as CMC gashed the Cards for 106 rushing yards and three rushing TDs while also hauling in seven catches for 71 receiving yards and another trip to the end zone.

The Niners also have the third-best scoring defense in the league (14.5 PAPG) and the fifth-best defense in terms of average yards allowed (284.3 YAPG). Simply put, they’re the most complete and balanced team in the NFL right now. It also doesn’t hurt that San Fran did just beat Dallas in the previous postseason to swing the momentum in this fabled rivalry back to the Red and Gold.

Cowboys vs. 49ers Betting Trends

  • Dallas is 4-4 in the last eight road games, including the playoffs (SU/ATS).
  • The Cowboys are 2-7 in its last nine outings against NFC West teams (SU/ATS).
  • The totals went in five of Dallas’ last six games on the road.
  • San Francisco is currently on a 10-game win streak at home (9-1 ATS).
  • The 49ers are 5-1 in their last six games against teams from the NFC East (SU/ATS).
  • The totals went over in six of the last eight games played in Levi’s Stadium.

Cowboys vs. 49ers Expert Betting Predictions

For the first time this season, the 49ers will be in a hotly-contested battle to put some fear into their fans. But in the end, the Niners should still prevail victorious over the Cowboys straight-up. Covering the relatively short spread for San Francisco’s standards might be an issue, though, so we wouldn’t fault anyone for backing the Cowboys to cover if they think the game will be decided by a single field goal or less.
