The Favorites

The obvious choice is going to be the champs, Alabama Crimson Tide, as they kick off next season’s odds at +280. They will be losing players in the NFL Draft, such is the case with Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith and Najee Harris. Alabama always has a way to get their squad to be solid as they usually are, so not much to worry with this team. They might bring back nine defensive starters to the lineup. They are the national champions for a reason.

The Clemson Tigers follow in second place in the 2022 CFP National Championship odds. They too are also looking to win the trophy once again. After failing to defend it in 2020 against LSU, and losing recently to Ohio State in the Semifinals, Clemson wants to rise again as the top team. They might be losing QB Trevor Lawrence to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL Draft, but they still have a solid defense line. DE Justin Foster was able to return from injury, along with freshman QB DJ Uiagalelei and possibly another 10 defensive starters. This can definitely be a threat to the ACC.

Smart Picks

You can definitely expect for the Ohio State Buckeyes to return the playoffs. After having a blowout National Championship game against Alabama, 52-24, the disappointment is at large. Being so close, but not being able to deliver. The last time they won the trophy was back in the 2015, which was the first time the newly College Football Playoff was played. There was a lot of pressure on their shoulders indeed. They definitely can return and redeem themselves, but it could be a difficult road though, as they will be missing QB Justin Fields, WR Chris Olave and RB Trey Sermon.

With the return QB Spencer Rattler and RB Kennedy Brooks, the Oklahoma Sooners could becoming a smart pick indeed. Although they haven’t made the playoffs in quite a while, they are still considered one of the top teams people bet on. I’m betting they could become the surprise for next season.

Underdogs

One team that has made it to championship game but lost was the Georgia Bulldogs, back in 2018 against the Alabama Crimson Tide. It was such a close game, ending 26-23 in overtime, just a field goal of a difference. Since then, Georgia has had great seasons, though it isn’t enough to qualify to the playoffs. There’s no doubt Georgia could come back. With their College Football odds at +800, it seems they might also become a team that can sweep the favorites.

Other teams to keep in mind as underdogs are the Florida Gators (+2500), Texas A&M Aggies (+3000), 2020 National Champions LSU Tigers (+3300) and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+3300), who recently participated in the 2021 College Football Playoffs, playing against Alabama in the Rose Bowl, which the lost 31-14.

Early 2022 CFP National Championship Betting Prediction

Based on recent playoffs history, one would assume that the usual teams always arrive to the playoffs. But there’s always an exception, like LSU in 2020. The statistics don’t lie although never define the chemistry of a team. It’s way too early to predict who will take next year’s championship, but it won’t be strange to see a familiar face once again. Be on the lookout for your favorite teams news, which can definitely define and change the odds in the upcoming months.
