Why Bet on Frances Tiafoe?

After a pretty shaky start in the first round of the 2023 Australian Open, 16th-seeded Frances Tiafoe had a much better showing in the second round of the tournament with his straight-sets victory over Juncheng Shang. Tiafoe dropped just one game in the final set to close out the day with fury and momentum heading into the next stage.

It’s been a great start to the season for Tiafoe, who won all five matches he played prior to the Aussie Open over in the United Cup. Losing a bit of steam Down Under, meanwhile, is Karen Khachanov, who needed four sets to dispatch his second-round opponent in the tourney Jason Kubler. The No. 18 seed cruised past his first foe of the event only to struggle at times against Kubler but did drop just two games in the fourth and match-clinching set.

Khachanov continues his consistent showings in Melbourne, having advanced to the second round of the Aussie Open in all seven of his career appearances. The power-hitting Russian also made it to the third round of the tournament for the fifth straight time but has yet to advance beyond this stage of the event.

In terms of overall success, Khachanov has far more accolades under his belt compared to Tiafoe. The former has four ATP Tour titles while Tiafoe has just one victory overall. Although Khachanov’s running record of 7-2 this season somewhat offsets his experience, a superb semifinal showing in last year’s US Open shows that he’s ready to make the leap in becoming a formidable threat in Grand Slam events. Not to mention that he’s also unbeaten in two career singles matches against Tiafoe.
