Two top-five Western Conference teams face off at the Footprint Center on Friday night. Phoenix Suns, the fourth seed, try to work their way back to the top. The hosts look to bounce back from a three-point defeat in the hands of the Wizards. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies recently dropped a lengthy seven-game win streak after back-to-back losses to the Thunder and Nuggets, respectively. They still have the better record coming into the game, but the Suns are breathing down their necks with a 19-13 overall record.

Why Bet on the Memphis Grizzlies?

The Grizzlies are tied with the Nuggets at 19 wins and 11 losses. This puts them within arm’s reach of the top Western Conference spot. We could see the franchise lead the conference just before Christmas if they take this one home.

Defense is what makes this Memphis side scary. They limit teams to 111.2 points per game on a league-best 44.7% opponent shooting. The team sticks up tight perimeter defense, keeping teams to 50.9% from the two-point range and 35.7% from downtown. More than that, the squad leads the total rebounds statistic, topping the number at 58.9 boards per game. Steven Adams takes the rebounding helm and collects 10.19 boards per game in 27 appearances.

On the offensive side, Ja Morant remains Taylor Jenkins’ point man. He headlines the scoring at 27.04 points per game, while leading the team in assists (7.76 APG) and steals (1.08 SPG). His efforts put the Grizzlies on the competitive side of things, averaging 115.4 points per game on 46.7% shooting. Furthermore, the hosts bear the league-best record in points in the paint, averaging 57.8 in 30 games.

Why Bet on the Phoenix Suns?

The Suns are breathing down the necks of their next opponents. They have the same 19-win record as the Grizzlies, but played two games more and recorded two more losses in the process. Despite everything, they still hold the fourth-best record in the West and are expected to improve their numbers in the coming weeks.

The offense is a key proponent of the Suns’ game. They average 115.7 points per game on 47.1% shooting. They do particularly well from deep at 37.9% and take advantage of opportunities from the line, hitting 79.9% of their free throws. Devin Booker is the only 20-plus point scorer on the team, averaging 28.00 points per game. DeAndre Ayton is the second-best player with 17.61 points per game and leads rebounding with 9.68 boards per game.

Being a two-way team, the Suns also have numbers to show for on defense. Phoenix limits opponents to 110.7 points per game on 46.9% opponent shooting. Despite not having the best three-point defense, the side does keep its competitors to 52.6% from the two-point range. Rebounding is also a strong suit of this lineup. Phoenix averages 52.1 total rebounds per game in 32 contests.

Grizzlies vs. Suns Betting Trends

  • The Grizzlies are 2-3 in the last five road games (2-3 ATS).
  • The Grizzlies are 4-1 in the last five road games against the Suns (4-1 ATS).
  • The totals went under in three of the Grizzlies’ last five road games versus the Suns.
  • The Suns are 7-3 in the last ten games at Footprint Center (5-5 ATS).
  • The Suns are 4-6 in the last ten home contests versus the Grizzlies.
  • The totals went over in three of the Suns’ last five home games.

Grizzlies vs. Suns Expert Betting Prediction

The Grizzlies’ sub-par road record is the only thing pulling them down. It’s a concerning feat especially against a strong Suns side at home. Phoenix holds a slight advantage here. However, not having Devin Booker hits the roster strength significantly. Landry Shamet is expected to fill in for him, while three other Suns bench players are questionable to play. Having the homecourt advantage is their only saving grace in this one. Meanwhile, Memphis walks inside the Footprint Center firing on all cylinders. They have a healthy starting lineup that features the duo of Morant and Brooks, which should be enough to keep the scoreline close and cover the spread.
