Why Bet on the Miami Heat?

Miami simply isn’t getting enough from anyone other than stars Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. Butler played 45 minutes Friday and had 25 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Adebayo played 44 minutes and had 20 points and 11 rebounds. Adebayo has scored well in the NBA Finals, scoring at least 20 points in each of the four games. However, Game 4 was his worst performance when it comes to taking care of the basketball. After having four turnovers total in the first three games, Adebayo had a playoff-worst seven on Friday. Prior to Game 4, he had not turned the ball over more than four times in any game this postseason.

The starting backcourt of Gabe Vincent and Max Strus went 1-for-10 shooting with no 3s. Duncan Robinson’s numbers were decent but he didn’t make a play or shot of any significance, same for Caleb Martin. Heat guard Tyler Herro hasn’t played since Game 1 of Round 1 due to injury and it’s not likely he plays Game 5, either.

Monday marks the third elimination game of this postseason for Miami, which survived in the play-in tournament against Chicago and Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals against Boston. Butler said the team will adopt the same attitude against the Nuggets. The Heat haven’t found a way to slow down Denver’s offense, which is averaging 119.3 points per 100 possessions so far in the series.

“We don’t have no quit,” Butler said after Game 4. “We are going to continually fight … to get better. And then we are going into Monday and do what we said we were going to do this entire time and win. We have to. We have no other choice. Otherwise, we did all this for no reason.”

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra is 13-9 (.591) all-time in elimination games, the fourth-highest winning percentage in NBA history (minimum 20 games).

Why Bet on the Denver Nuggets?

Frankly, the 2023 NBA Finals should have ended in a sweep – and it would have had the Nuggets not fallen asleep and blown a nice lead and lost Game 2 at home. They have dominated otherwise. Denver took a 3-1 series lead with a 108-95 win in south Florida on Friday.

The Nuggets used an all-around team performance as three players scored 20+ points, led by Aaron Gordon who posted a playoff career-high 27 points, seven rebounds and six assists in 42 minutes to help lead Denver to the victory. Gordon’s 11 made field goals was a playoff career-high. The Nuggets are 5-0 in these playoffs when Gordon has 4+ assists.

Jamal Murray finished with 12 assists after having 10 assists in each of the first three games of the series. He joined Magic Johnson as the only players to have 10 or more assists in four consecutive games in a single NBA Finals series. Johnson did it four times. Murray is the first player to have at least 10 assists in each of his first four career NBA Finals games. (He was already the first to do it in his first three.)

Nikola Jokic accounted for 23 points, 12 rebounds and four assists to become the first player in league history to account for at least 500 points, 250 rebounds, and 150 assists in a single postseason. It was Jokic’s first career playoff game with 23+ points, 12+ rebounds, 4+ assists, 3+ steals and 3+ blocks. He became the first player since Kevin Durant in 2017 to post those numbers in the postseason.

Bruce Brown had 21 points and four rebounds in the win. Despite being without Jokic for more than five minutes early in the fourth quarter due to foul trouble, Denver more than held its own, and Brown was huge. He shot 4-of-5 from the field in the quarter.
