New Life in the Squad
Many project Brandin Cooks as the team’s prime candidate for the MVP award this season. In the previous season, the receiver led the team with 90 receptions, over 1,000 yards, and six receiving touchdowns. There are pretty good numbers coming from the 28-year-old. However, the new season introduces several sleeper candidates lurking around as well.
While most MVP candidates play quarterback, starting QB Davis Mills lies under the radar. His rookie season isn’t exactly the greatest. The third-rounder suffered several games of multiple turnovers and restrained offensive movements. But once he was assigned a starter role in Week 13, he was a different player through and through. Mills recorded a 102.4 passer rating with nine touchdowns against two interceptions. By the end of his stint, Mills led all rookies in 300-plus-yard passing games (four) while averaging 7.2 yards per attempt.
Jonathan Greenard gives more confidence to the Texans, with his pass-rushing abilities. He makes it to the MVP candidates list following a team-high eight sacks with nine tackles for a loss. Head coach Lovie Smith spoke highly of Greenard’s capacity to win when facing offensive tackles. Furthermore, the former Florida point man finished as Pro Football Focus’ 11th-best pass-rusher and an 82.9 grade.

The Texans managed just four wins in the previous season, dropping 13 games in the process. It’s the second consecutive year they registered less than five wins despite leading the AFC division in 2019 with a 10-6 record.
