Mahomes at Home in Big Moments

Although the Chiefs are currently (+1.5) underdogs to win Super Bowl LVII, there’s no denying that victory is within reach for as long as Patrick Mahomes is under center. Mahomes has had a decorated career as the savior of the KC franchise, having won a Super Bowl, Super Bowl MVP, and league MVP as his crowning achievements thus far. Unfortunately, he’s still dealing with the ankle sprain he suffered during the AFC Championship Game, which is likely why the Chiefs aren’t seen as favorites in SB57 right now.

MVS: The Chiefs’ New MVP?

Much of Mahomes’ MVP-worthy success this season can be attributed to his ability to make the most out of the weapons at his disposal. While stud tight end Travis Kelce remains his favorite target, Marquez Valdes-Scantling has done a great job as well filling the top wide receiver void left by Tyreek Hill. Valdes-Scantling led all Kansas City wideouts with six catches for 116 receiving yards against the Bengals and has found the end zone in both playoff games. As we’ll get into below, MVS is the real X-factor that the Chiefs need to step up once more.

The Break Certainly Helps

Good thing there’s a two-week leadup to the Super Bowl, as Kansas City is dealing with a plethora of key injured players on both sides of the ball. A majority of the team’s receiving corps – JuJu Smith-Schuster, Kadarius Toney, and Mecole Hardman – are all bang up, which is why Valdes-Scantling’s production is paramount. On defense, meanwhile, linebacker Willie Gay and cornerback L’Jarius Sneed are also hurt. Getting several or all of these key players in better shape for the showdown in Glendale will go a long way for the Chiefs’ bid at reclaiming their spot on top of the NFL mountain.
