Lions vs. Packers Game Information

Why Bet on the Detroit Lions?

Detroit traded Matthew Stafford for Jared Goff. Most believed the Rams got the better part of the deal. Based on how Goff played against the San Francisco 49ers, though, the Lions didn’t make out too badly.

The former California Golden Bear threw for 338 yards and 3 TDs with a single pick. Goff almost rallied the Lions to a regulation tie but fell short in the fourth quarter. Still, the effort versus a Super Bowl favorite shows us the Detroit Lions offense isn’t nearly as vanilla as many believe.

While the Lions offense played well, the defense stunk. 49ers’ quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 314 yards and a TD. More disturbing? Jimmy G. averaged 12.6 yards per completion. The Lions’ front seven allowed 131 yards and a 4.7 per carry average. Detroit’s defense must play better to have any shot of keeping this within the number. That may be difficult because cornerback Jeff Okudah is out for the season.

Why Bet on the Baltimore Ravens?

In the loss to New Orleans, it’s had to assess Green Bay’s offense. It’s obvious the Packers didn’t come close to playing at their usual level. Aaron Rodgers had one of the worst games of his career. The Pack amassed 229 total yards, rushed for 43 yards, turned the ball over 3 times, and scored just 3 points. It was an embarrassing performance.

The scoresheet reads Saints 38 and Packers 3. But before decrying the way Green Bay’s defense played, it’s important to put things in perspective. Aaron Rodgers and the offense didn’t give the Packer D a chance. Yes, Green Bay allowed 38 points. But the Saints amassed just 322 yards. Green Bay’s pass defense played well when allowing 151 yards. The rush defense suffered, though. The Saints ran for 171.

Lions vs. Packers Expert Betting Predictions

When handicapping this game, we shouldn’t concentrate on what happened in NFL Week 1. Detroit played beyond expectations while it’s obvious Green Bay wasn’t ready to take on the Saints.

But although it’s difficult to assess Green Bay’s performance, one thing stood out. Aaron Rodgers played with absolutely no urgency. He didn’t appear fazed at all after throwing pick after pick.

In fact, he seemed to be going through the motions. During the offseason, we mentioned how Rodgers may not be as motivated as he was last season. Based on his week 1 performance, the thinking could be correct.

There’s a chance Green Bay comes out firing on all cylinders. No trend assumes that, though. In fact, the most significant trend is the Packers are 1-7 against the spread in the last 8 meetings. Detroit finds a way to keep their games versus the Packers close. The home team is reeling after a loss to an NFC opponent and their quarterback doesn’t appear to care a lot about it. We’re taking the points.
