Why is Manchester City a safe bet in Game 1?

This is the Cityzens’ 10th campaign in the Champions League. They’ve participated in each one since the 2011/12/ season. At the time when they played Dortmund, it was it just their second season of playing in the tournament. Since then, the team has vastly improved and has done a much better performance in the tournament.

City heads into this matchup having won the last four home games during the knockout round, but has only one 6 of 12 home games during this phase. They’ve also won 10 of the last 11 Champions League games against German team and also have 12 wins against German teams in total. One interesting stat is they’ve lost four of five games during this stage of the competition under Pep Guardiola.

The player to look out for is Kevin De Bruyne, who’s been involved in 12 goals of his last tournament matches, with three goals and nine assists. He’s also scored three goals and assisted three more in six starts during the quarterfinals.

Why is Borussia Dortmund a safe bet in Game 1?

Dortmund’s performance during the tournament has been real good. After losing just one game during the group stage, they’ve gone unbeaten in the last seven games. This is also their return to the quarterfinals since the 2016-17 season.

BVB head into this matchup having won their last 9 of 15 European games. The four losses came away from home. Their performance against English clubs hasn’t gone so well. They’ve lost their last five games against a team from this region and haven’t beat one in a European competition since the 2015/16 Europa League, when they went up against Tottenham.

The top player to keep an eye out for is Erling Haaland. He’s scored in the last six Champions League appearances. This would be would be his fifth appearance in the knockout round. If he scores in this game, he will become the fifth plater in the tournament’s history to score in seven games in a row.

Manchester City vs. Borussia Dortmund Betting Prediction

It looks like Manchester City heads into this matchup with much more confidence and form. They didn’t have much difficulties taking down Monchengladbach in the Round of 16.

On the other hand, Dortmund barely were able to hold on to the competition, after Sevilla scared them but failed to tie the aggregate score. I see this happening again for them.

I feel that City will take the first win in this round. With the home field advantage and coming off an easy win, it doesn’t seem they will be off their game. Their number one in the Premier League for a reason. We might just see them make it to the finals again.
