New Orleans Saints 2023 Straight-Up Overview
The Saints struggled in 2022. New Orleans won just 7 games in a 7-10 season. Like the New England Patriots in the AFC, though, the New Orleans Saints are a proud franchise that doesn’t take losing seasons lightly.
After the disappointing 2022, New Orleans made a hard sell to Derek Carr, the Raiders quarterback. Carr made a phone call to wide receiver Michael Thomas. MT ensured Carr that he wasn’t leaving the franchise, which sold Derek on New Orleans’ potential.
After signing Carr, the Saints became the favorite to win the NFC South. Based on the roster, New Orleans should take the division. The offense is loaded. In addition to Thomas and Carr, top running back Alvin Kamara returns.
So does an offense line that will be much better if last year’s first round draft pick, left tackle Trevor Penning, can stay healthy.
The Saints signed Jamaal Williams to back up Kamara. New Orleans will play both in many situations. Tight ends Juwaan Johnson and Foster Moreau give New Orleans options. So does Swiss Army knife Taysom Hill, who is a viable emergency quarterback and can play tight end or running back.
On defense, the Saints have the potential to be one of the NFL’s better units. The secondary, if it stays healthy, could especially be good.
Overall, New Orleans projects as one of this season’s most improved teams. The Saints flip the script and go 10-7 on the money line.

The Saints went 7-10 ATS last season. Oddsmakers could struggle to create lines that reflect New Orleans’ improvements.
New Orleans won’t post a blowout against the spread record. Don’t expect a 13-4 or 12-5 against the spread stat. The Saints’ won’t turn it around that much.
But New Orleans will go 10-7 ATS instead of 7-10. So the ATS record will mirror the Saints’ SU record.
