New York Giants 2023 Straight-Up Overview
Daboll and the Giants handed quarterback Daniel Jones a massive contract. Jones’ contract is a sign of the confidence the franchise has in their starting quarterback.
On the surface, one might wonder why Jones got the contract. But a closer look reveals that Jones had a good season. Although DJ threw for just 3,205 yards and 15 TDS, he played with few targets.
This season, Jones can throw to Darius Slayton, Isaiah Hodges, and Parris Campbell. Daboll especially has high hopes for Campbell. If Parris takes the next step, he could be a special receiver.
Also, Saquon Barkley returns. Barkley is one of the better overall offensive players in the league. He’s a great runner and has amazing hands.
In addition, Jones is a good rusher. Daboll’s offensive system relies on the quarterback to run with the ball. Brian’s system is the reason Josh Allen became one of the NFL’s top rushing quarterbacks.
Last season, Jones rushed for 708 yards from 120 carries for a 5.9 per carry average. Barkley averaged 4.4 yards per carry on his way to 1,312 rushing yards and 10 TDs. If the offensive line improves at all, Barkley, Jones. and the passing game will excel.
The key for offensive line improvement is right tackle Evan Neal. Andrew Thomas is great at left tackle. So if Neal improves, the G-Men could send one of the league’s top O-lines to the field.
On defense, the Giants played okay but not great. NYG allowed 144.2 rushing yards per game, but allowed just 21.8 points per contest. The Giants played bend but don’t break.
Last year’s top draft pick, end Kayvon Thibodeaux, must step it up. He had just 4 sacks in 2022. If Thibodeaux improves, the entire defense will take a massive forward step. The secondary is solid.
Overall, the Giants should improve straight up. NYG went 9-7-1 on the money line in 2022. This season, the Giants should go 10-7 SU.

Because the New York Giants went 13-4 against the spread last season, we should expect a much different ATS record from this season.
