Why Bet on the Oregon Ducks?

Oregon (5-0) has been off since stomping Stanford 42-6 on Sept. 30. The Ducks trailed 6-0 early in the second quarter and had only 13 yards on six plays, but by the end of the day Oregon had over 500 yards of offense and held an opponent to 10 or fewer points for the fourth time in five games.

It was Oregon’s 72nd straight win when allowing less than 14 points and 31st consecutive win when scoring 40 or more. The Ducks did not commit a turnover for the fourth time this season (tied with Penn State for fewest turnovers in the country with one).

QB Bo Nix completed 27-of-32 passes for 290 yards and four touchdowns, adding 18 rushing yards on three carries. His touchdowns set a season high and was third career game with at least four passing touchdowns (one shy of career high) and his 84.3 completion percentage is his fourth-best rate as a Duck, and fifth-highest in a single game in UO history. Nix owns five of Oregon’s top 10 games in terms of single-game completion percentage (minimum of 20 attempts).

He moved into a tie for 36th in NCAA history with 12,303 passing yards (Kenny Pickett) and is 36 rushing yards away from 1,500 career yards. This will be Nix’s 53rd career start, tying the NCAA all-time record for games started by a quarterback.

Wideout Troy Franklin led the team with seven catches and 117 yards and two touchdowns. He has a team-high seven receiving touchdowns and has a touchdown reception in eight of Oregon’s last nine games, dating back to last season (11 TDs in that span). Franklin now has 18 career receiving touchdowns, moving into a 10th-place tie in Oregon history.

Oregon is one of 14 remaining unbeaten teams in the nation, and one of just two (Georgia) to rank in the top 10 for both scoring offense (2nd, 51.6 PPG) and scoring defense (T-5th, 11.8 PPG). The Ducks are also one of just two teams (Miami) in the top 10 nationally for both total offense (2nd, 557.8 YPG) and total defense (6th, 255.6 YPG), and their plus-five turnover margin is tied for 12th overall.

Why Bet on the Washington Huskies?

Washington (5-0) also last played on Sept. 30 and beat Arizona 31-24. QB and Heisman favorite Michael Penix completed 30 of 40 passes for 363 yards in Washington’s 12th straight win over two seasons. UW leads the nation in passing offense and total offense; and is No. 3 in scoring offense. Penix Jr. has notched five of the top-10 single-game passing yards marks in UW history, including his first three games this season (473 vs. Michigan State – 3rd; 450 vs. Boise State – 6th; 409 vs. Tulsa – 10th). Penix is up to sixth in UW history in career TD passes, with 47. Penix is currently No. 1 in the nation in pass plays of 10-plus (78 plays), 20- and 30-plus (19 plays) yards.

Washington has notched 43 scrimmage plays of 20 or more yards over its first five games, the highest per-game average in the nation. UW also leads the nation (on per-game average) with 23 plays of 30 yards or more. Prior to the start of this season, Washington had had just eight games in its history with two players finishing with 100 or more receiving yards. So far this season, Washington has had two players with 100 receiving yards in four games with Rome Oduzne one of the two in each four and Ja’Lynn Polk doing it in three of four games. Jalen McMillan also had one.

This will be the 115th all-time meeting between the Ducks and Huskies, and first ever with both teams ranked in the top 10. ESPN College GameDay will be on site and will feature the Ducks for the 29th time. UO is 17-11 all-time when previewed on the road show. Washington leads the all-time series against the Ducks with 61 wins, 48 losses and five ties.

Last year’s game in Eugene was a memorable one as UW emerged from a back-and-forth affair with a 37-34 win, thanks to a last-minute field goal from Peyton Henry, along with late, long TD catches from Polk and Taj Davis. Oregon has won its past two trips to Seattle, however.
