PSG vs. Barcelona 2021 Champions League Odds and Preview

By Hank Blaine

The first encounter between these two Champions League rivals in the Round of 16 ended with a beating against Barcelona. PSG took the win in Camp Nou, 4-1. Considering their last encounter in the tournament was back during the 2016/17 season, Barcelona also gave PSG a beating, 6-1. I guess we can say that the French squad got their revenge.

This series has been going since the 1994/95. There’s a lot of history between and PSG is looking to get back to the main stage in May, with hopes of winning their first Champions League. Barcelona, on the other hand, have already won the competition five times. Though an extra one never hurts.

Let’s take a closer look at the latest Champions League odds, game preview and expert prediction for PSG vs. Barcelona!

Why is PSG a safe bet in Game 2?

PSG heads into the matchup having won two of their last three games against Barcelona during the Champions League. They have netted at least once in the last 22 Champions League games at Parc des Princes. The last team to have obtained a clean sheet in France was Real Madrid, back in October 2015.

An interesting fact to point is out is that PSG hasn’t beaten a Spanish team in a knockout round since the 2012/13 season. The 4-0 win against Barcelona in 2017 has been their only success in the last five knockout round games against a Spanish squad at home turf. And it’s nor that we haven’t seen them take the lead before, but they can easily lose it, just like in their previous encounters from the last season they met.

Current stats indicate PSG averaging 2.17 goals scored per game, with 1.00 goals conceded. One player to look forward to is Mbappé, who scored a hat trick in Camp Nou for Game 1. This makes him the only player to have scored more than three goals versus Barcelona during a Champions League season.

Why is Barcelona a safe bet in Game 2?

Barça arrives to Parc des Princes having only one win in the last nine away games during the Champions League knockout phase, with only three goals in their favor during that amount of matches. They are facing the prospect of losing three games in a row for the first time since they started in the tournament.

This season makes it Barcelona’s 25th campaign, having arrived to the Round of 16 for the 17th consecutive time. The performance during the group phase got them into second place after Juventus, who achieved first place due to the lower amount of goals conceded. They are definitely coming in as a strong contender. And, as mentioned previously, history has proven otherwise when it comes to tight situations for Barcelona.

When looking at the latest stats, right now Barcelona is averaging 2.67 goals scored per game, with 0.83 goals conceded. Messi will be player to look out for in Game 2. He’s only lost four of his 75 appearances in the Champions League. Funny enough, half of those losses are from PSG.

PSG vs. Barcelona Betting Prediction

The home field advantage, plus leading in the score aggregate will boost PSG’s morale and hold the line against Barcelona. But, I wouldn’t put all my chips on the French team.

Barça have been able to recuperate from a first leg loss to come back and dominate in the second leg. Just look what happened the last time they met. But I believe PSG has the upper hand this time around, especially after losing the final match last season. They want that title and are definitely close in getting it.
