Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2023 Straight-Up Overview

The for first time since 2000, the NFL will play a regular season without Tom Brady. The league’s greatest quarterback of all time officially retired this offseason. Although some believe Brady was going to pull another fast one, as of August training camps, the Terrific One remains out of the NFL.

Brady’s retirement, for real this time, led the Buccaneers to sign one of the more interesting quarterback personalities in the league, former Oklahoma Heisman Trophy winner and Cleveland Brown Baker Mayfield.

At times during his career, Baker has looked like he NFL’s next great signal caller. At other times, Baker has made decisions that would make a backup high school quarterback shake his head.

Mayfield knows what he must do to improve. At Tampa, Baker can throw to the terrific Mike Evans, the underrated Chris Godwin, and Russell Gage, a receiver with the talent to become one of the best slot men in the business.

Baker can only do so much, though. So even if Mayfield has a good season, the Tampa offense may still struggle. Tristan Wirfs, one of the top right tackles in the NFL, must now play on the left side. Wirfs had so much anxiety in the offseason at switching positions that he had to visit the team psychologist.

Wirfs claims he’s ready to go. We must wait and see. Also, the Buccaneers have to improve their dreadful rushing attack. Last season, the Bucs ranked second in passing yards per and thirty-second, dead last, in rushing yards each game. Rachaad White has talent. But Tampa must commit to giving the RB the ball.

The good news if you like Tampa is that the defense remains a solid unit. Nose tackle Vita Vea is as good as it gets. The linebackers, Devin White, Lavonte David, and Shaquil Barrett, are solid. The secondary is decent. Too many injuries landed in the secondary last season. So Tampa must try their best to keep everyone healthy.

Overall, at least on paper, Tampa should have a decent season but there’s a catch. Atlanta will be improved, Carolina should be better, and the Saints have the chance to be one of the NFC’s best teams.

So even though Tampa won’t be a bad team, the Bucs will struggle to win games. Tampa loses ten, twice to the Saints, road games to the Panthers and Falcons, and to the Vikings, Eagles, Bills, 49ers, Colts, and Jaguars.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2023 SU Record Prediction: 7-10

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2023 Against the Spread Overview

High expectations followed Tampa Bay last season and the Buccaneers failed to deliver. Tampa went 4-12-1 against the spread. The over under on Tampa’s win total is 6.5, which means oddsmakers have an idea of the lines to set on Tampa games.

The Buccaneers will win more ATS this season than last. The Bucs will have a losing record ATS, but it will be closer to their money line stat. We predict Tampa finishes with an 8-9 ATS record.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers ATS Record Prediction: 8-9

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2023 Over/Under Overview

Because the Bucs couldn’t rush the football, the offense failed to deliver as many points as oddsmakers predicted, which is why Tampa games finished with a 6-11 over to under record.

This season, expectations won’t be as high regarding TB’s offense. Buccaneer games revert to the mean with an 8-9 over under number.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2023 Over/Under Record Prediction: 8-9
