Top Tennis Betting Picks of the Week – October 17th, 2022

By Hank Blaine

This week, both the WTA and ATP have fantastic tournaments. Most of the ATP’s top tennis players throw down at the European Open in Antwerp Belgium. The WTA’s best will play at the Guadalajara Open Akron in Akron, Mexico. Both tournaments should produce plenty of excellent tennis action this week. See below for three fantastic ATP matchups and three terrific WTA contests happening on Tuesday, October 18th.

Top Tennis Betting Picks of the Week (October 17th, 2022)

ATP – Antwerp, Belgium

Stanislas Wawrinka vs. Richard Gasquet

16-time tournament winner Stanislas Wawrinka didn’t play well in his last. Wawrinka fell to Adrian Mannarino after a 6-1, 2-6, 3-6 match. Brandon Nakashima beat Richard Gasquet in the underdog’s last. Nakashima scored a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Gasquet is 22-16 in singles titles matches this season. Wawrinka has done nothing this year. Gasquet is worth backing.

Tennis Betting Pick: Richard Gasquet +157

Marc-Andrea Huesler vs. Francisco Cerundolo

Huesler fell in his last but the -147 chalk has won a singles title this season. So we can’t write him off after the bad performance. The underdog is the seeded player in the tournament while Huesler is not. Cerundolo won twice at the Gijon Open before former major winner Dominic Thiem beat him in the third round. At the odds, Huesler is an underlay, making Cerundolo more than playable.

Tennis Betting Pick: Francisco Cerundolo +123

Marcos Giron vs. Sebastian Korda

Like Cerundolo, Giron lost to Dominic Thiem in his last match played but Giron fell in the second round. Marcos is 16-25 in singles contests this season.

Giron is a decent tennis player but he’s up against it versus Korda on Tuesday. Sebastian made it to the Gijon Open finals in his last tournament played, falling to U.S. Open runner-up Andrey Rublev. Korda starts the week off well with a victory.

Tennis Betting Pick: Sebastian Korda -208

WTA – Guadalajara, Mexico

Lauren Davis vs. Jelena Ostapenko

Favorite Jelena Ostapenko has scored 2 doubles titles and a singles title this season. Ostapenko has made over $1.5 million in earnings. On Tuesday, the favored player faces a strong competitor.

Lauren Davis is 26-24 in singles titles this season. Davis qualified for the Guadalajara Open by winning a couple of matches. She’s playing well while Ostapenko lost her last match. Backing the underdog makes sense.

Tennis Betting Pick: Lauren Davis +123

Magdalena Frech vs. Yulia Putintseva

Like Davis, Frech qualified for this tournament by beating two opponents. Frech got by Anna Danalina 7-5, 6-3 before taking down Danielle Lao 6-4, 6-2. Yulia Putintseva lost her last match.

But before failing to qualify for the San Diego Open, Putintseva had played well at the U.S. Open, upsetting Amanda Anisimova in the first round. It’s tough to go against the chalk.

Tennis Betting Pick: Yulia Putintseva -169

Eugenia Bouchard vs. Kayla Day

The chalk in this is 5-6 in singles matches this season and had to retire in the second set in her first match at the Transylvania Open in her last.

Kayla Day is 37-18 in singles matches this season. Day had to qualify for the Guadalajara Open, which is the main reason she’s the underdog. But Bouchard isn’t playing well. The odds make the underdog an overlay.

Tennis Betting Pick: Kayla Day +134
