Why Bet on the Houston Texans?

Many experts considered the Houston Texans as the worst team in the league heading into the new season. However, the Texans defied the odds with a convincing 37-21 win over division rivals the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1, handing rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence his first-ever regular-season loss as well as snapping Urban Meyer’s streak of winning 17 consecutive season openers back in the collegiate ranks.

Veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor looked crisp under center for the Texans, throwing for 291 passing yards and two touchdowns. Another journeyman in running back Mark Ingram had a stellar debut for the Texans as well by racking up 85 rushing yards and running in for a score.

On the other side of the ball, Houston’s defense forced Lawrence into throwing three interceptions whilst also holding the Jags to just 76 rushing yards. First-year head coach David Culley and his boys will need to relive this magical start as they travel to Cleveland to the on A Browns team that proved to be just as potent on the attack.

Why Bet on the Cleveland Browns?

The Cleveland Browns were on the verge of beating the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, but they learned the hard way that a 12-point lead is no big deal for Patrick Mahomes and Co. The Browns ended up losing their season opener, 33-29, extending their losing streak against the Chiefs to five games and their own Week 1 losing streak to 17 straight seasons.

On the bright side, Cleveland’s running game was firing on all cylinders as the team amassed 153 rushing yards and four TDs on the ground along with a solid 5.9 run-per-carry average. Quarterback Baker Mayfield also had a decent afternoon, going 21-of-28 for 321 passing yards. However, Mayfield did get picked off with a little over a minute left in the contest to end the Browns’ attempt at a comeback. Although this loss stings for the Browns, they can rest well in the knowledge that their Week 2 opponent won’t be as imposing as the back-to-back AFC champions.

Texans vs. Browns Betting Trends

  • The Texans went 2-6 on the road last season (3-5 ATS).
  • The Texans are 5-1 in their last six meetings against Cleveland (6-0 ATS).
  • The totals have gone under in five of the Texans’ last six games against the Browns.
  • The Browns went 6-2 at home during the 2020 regular season (3-5 ATS).
  • The Browns went a perfect 4-0 last season against teams from the AFC South (2-2 ATS).
  • The totals have gone under in three of those four contests against the Texans’ division.

Texans vs. Browns Expert Betting Predictions

The Browns open as double-digit favorites to win their first game of the season this coming Sunday afternoon after their strong showing in defeat against the Chiefs. However, expect the lines to slightly shift more towards the Texans’ favor in the days ahead, especially once people come around to realizing that their Week 1 win over the Jaguars wasn’t a fluke and rather a product of an embattled franchise simply playing well with nothing to lose.
