Top 2023 NFL Season Fantasy QBs to Draft

By Jeff Stinger

In the NFL, the quarterback is the most important position in the league. That’s not necessarily the case in fantasy football, though, but an elite fantasy QB can undoubtedly make or break one’s fantasy team regardless. That being said, let’s look at the top-rated fantasy QBs worth spending a high-value pick within the first three rounds of re-draft leagues.

Nitrobetting is here to take your bets into the end zone this 2023 NFL season. This time, let’s count down the five best quarterbacks to draft in the first few rounds of the 2023 NFL fantasy football season.

Top 5 Fantasy Football QBs to Draft this 2023 NFL Season

Patrick Mahomes

Nobody should be surprised that the reigning NFL MVP, Super Bowl winner, and Super Bowl MVP also happens to be the best fantasy QB on the board. The last time out, Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes (also the consensus +580 favorite to repeat as MVP) threw for a career-high 5,250 yards to go with 41 passing touchdowns and another four rushing TDs, finishing as only one of two fantasy QBs with an average of over 25 fantasy points per game. As the most consistently prolific quarterback since his banner 2018 campaign, Mahomes is rightfully the top fantasy QB to pick up this upcoming season.

Josh Allen

Last season, Buffalo’s Josh Allen was regarded as the top fantasy QB out of the litter after his magnificent 2020 and 2021 campaigns. The fifth-year gunslinger took a slight dip in production last season but still ended up with the second-most fantasy points among all quarterbacks, and has thrown for over 4,200 yards and at least 35 TDs in each of the last three years. All things considered, Allen is still a prized fantasy QB that will be a steal should he fall to a fantasy manager’s lap in the third round of the draft.

Jalen Hurts

Had it not been for two missed games due to injury, Philly’s main man Jalen Hurts would’ve likely ended up as the best QB in fantasy football and not Mahomes or Allen. Outside of a 3,700-yard, 22-TD passing campaign, the former Alabama and Oklahoma standout also ran for 760 rushing yards and 13 TDs on the ground as arguably the most lethal dual-threat quarterback in the game right now. Hurts has a ton of competition for that title of best dual-threat QB in the NFL, but his QB-best average of 25.6 fantasy points per game last season is enough to warrant him a spot in the top three of our list.

Lamar Jackson

It was a relatively disappointing showing in 2022 for Lamar Jackson, who played just 12 games for the second straight season and had a well-publicized contract extension dispute with the Ravens for a lackluster 2023 campaign. The 2019 NFL MVP has had a couple of dud seasons fantasy-wise, but Lamar did just get paid and should be motivated to bounce back this upcoming season. Jackson’s recent bouts with injuries will shy away many fantasy managers, yet his ceiling for production is still through the roof, making him more of a valued piece in dynasty leagues that re-draft leagues right now.

Justin Fields

Rounding out the high-value mobile QBs that fantasy managers can’t get enough of is Chicago’s up-and-coming play-caller Justin Fields. The fleet-footed 24-year-old became just the third NFL quarterback to finish a season with over 1,000 rushing yards, joining the elite company of Michael Vick and the aforementioned Jackson in this rarified air. Although Fields still has some work to do with his passing game, he’s not just a +2,100 sleeper to win the 2023 NFL Offensive Player of the Year award, but also an elite fantasy QB who scored the sixth-most fantasy points among his peers last season.
