Top Summer 2022 Transfer Window Stories

By Carlos Chacon

We expect the 2022 transfer window to feature some hasty moves between clubs. The 2021 summer transfer window exploded with Lionel Messi departing Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain and Cristiano Ronaldo returning to his former club Manchester United after a successful stint at Juventus. It was an exciting year for soccer fans at that time, but the next window anticipated to have an abundance of talented players. Clubs also get a chance to hit the reset button with a fresh lineup for next season.

With plenty of talent ready to move across teams to find greener pastures, Nitrobetting follows the top five players likely to light up the summer transfer window.

Top Five Summer 2022 Transfer Window Stories

Paulo Dybala

The Juventus forward recently announced on social media that this season would be his last with “La Vecchia Signora”. The 28-year-old Argentine had a tough season, scoring only ten goals in 29 appearances in the Serie A. He did slightly better in the Champions League with three goals in five games. Nevertheless, his expiring contract leads everyone to believe that his time in Turin is up.

Dybala is heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, particularly Arsenal. However, it’s going to be difficult to persuade the man from Juventus given that they just missed out on the Champions League once again. The Gunners’ mediocre league result could encourage the forward to stay in Italy and sign with Inter Milan.

Isco

Isco is a gem produced by La Liga club Real Madrid. He spent almost a decade with the club and become one of the mainstay midfielders. The 30-year-old packs loads of experience. We expect him to take this anywhere he goes. Isco’s playing time with ‘Los Blancos’ started to slow down heavily following Zinedine Zidane’s departure as manager. He hardly registered any time under Carlo Ancelotti. In the 2021-22 season, he managed to play 14 league games and score a goal. The declining playing minutes could be a deciding factor for a transfer this summer.

The Spaniard is linked to several Premier League teams. He would play a fantastic role for a club looking for more midfield experience and creativity. Although there’s a good chance that he stays with a Champions League club in Spain like Sevilla, we are not ruling out moves to English teams like Chelsea, Tottenham, and Arsenal.

Paul Pogba

One of the best midfielders of his generation did not announce a contract extension with Manchester United. He closed his 2021-22 season with a goal and nine assists in 20 Premier League appearances. We’ve seen some ups and downs for Pogba since moving up to the first team from the youth squad. On top of that, he’s been surrounded by rumors of moving to another club since 2019.

Although the Frenchman made no formal announcement of his departure from the club or his impending future, United boss Ralf Rangnick previously suggested that Pogba will head out of Old Trafford this summer. Reports link the 29-year-old to a move back to his former club Juventus or a career at Ligue 1 juggernauts PSG.

Angel Di Maria

Another Argentine under the radar of the summer transfer window is PSG’s Angel Di Maria. His career is coming to an end as he hits his mid-30s, but the veteran midfielder still has plenty of value to offer. He announced his retirement from international football following the 2022 World Cup this coming winter. However, his club football days expect to keep going. Even at his age, the Argentinian remains one of the hottest assets in terms of midfield experience.

Di Maria scored five goals and recorded eight assists in 26 Ligue 1 games. He still has more left in the tank thanks to a solid battery of forwards that includes Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe at PSG. Despite that, he was not offered a new deal by PSG and will depart this summer. Juventus was reportedly the first to reach out and strike a deal with the right-winger.

Sadio Mane

Last but not least, we find Liverpool fans anxious about Sadio Mane’s uncertainty with Liverpool. The Senegal international did not provide concrete answers when asked about his plans ahead of the Champions League final in Paris. The Reds suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to Real Madrid, and this might help the star forward decide on whether he should stay with his current club or try another route. His contract is set to expire in June 2023 and supporters are still waiting on an official announcement from the 30-year-old forward.

Speculation in connection with a move to Bayern Munich is the only hint we have about his future. In spite of that, Klopp is confident in keeping his key man in the starting lineup for next season.
