Glover Teixeira vs. Jamahal Hill

Many would argue that Jamahal Hill was lucky to be in the spot he’s now in. “Sweet Dreams” was merely slumbering in the rankings as the No. 7 contender for the now-vacant UFC Light Heavyweight title but is now shot straight to the top of the ladder following the lack of viable competitors for Glover Teixeira’s next opponent.

Teixeira even has the hometown advantage in Rio this weekend and is determined to bring back the title to Brazil after falling to Jiri Prochazka in their title bout last June. However, Hill shouldn’t be underestimated as he’s recently strung together three straight wins since losing his only MMA fight back in June of 2021. For as long as the more agile 31-year-old Hill avoids Teixeira’s gargantuan swings, he’ll likely gas out the local favorite and become the new UFC Heavyweight champ as a slight underdog if the bout does go to the final bell.

Gilbert Burns vs. Neil Magny

  • UFC 283 Odds: Gilbert Burns (-476) // Neil Magny (+375) vs.

The Brazilians have a lot to cheer for during the Welterweight brawl between Gilbert Burns and Neil Magny. Burns was born in Rio and is the more celebrated figure between the two of them. However, he’s also two of his last three fights; one being his squandered opportunity to steal the Welterweight crown from Kamaru Usman.

That being said, Magny could very well pounce on Burns’ recent struggles. Although “The Haitian Sensation” doesn’t have as many high-profile matches in the Octagon of late, his 6-2 record since 2the turn of the decade is still quite encouraging. Magny has the longest odds to stage an upset among our sleeper picks here but is nonetheless an intriguing sleeper pick packing a superb return on investment should he be able to extinguish Burns’ blazing return to Rio.

UFC 283 Betting Pick: Neil Magny

Paul Craig vs. Johnny Walker

  • UFC 283 Odds: Paul Craig (+165 // Johnny Walker (-192)

In a battle between two light heavyweights with contrasting fighting styles, it’s rather baffling to see polarizing motormouth Johnny Walker as the current favorite to win his bout against Paul Craig that’ll kick off the main card of UFC 283 Saturday night. Walker is yet another Rio native who hasn’t been at the top of his game, losing four of his last six bouts including a UFC Fight night affair in Brasilia back in March of 2020.

Meanwhile, Craig is coming off a loss to Volkan Oezdemir in his latest outing from last July. Then again, the “Bearjew” did string together four straight victories before that defeat to Oezdemir, with a hitlist that includes Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and even Jamahal Hill from earlier. Simply put, Craig is the easiest underdog pick to win his match amongst all other fighters in UFC 283.
