Washington Commanders 2023 Straight-Up Overview

Bienemy had massive success while running Kansas City’s offense. The Andy Reid disciple decided his time in KC was over after yet another Super Bowl victory.

But although Bienemy should employ a strategy that helps KC’s offense, don’t get too excited. Eric designed plays for one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time in Patrick Mahomes. Patrick is a first ballot hall of fame player.

In Washington, Bienemy must design plays for former North Carolina star Sam Howell. Howell isn’t close to where Mahomes is, which means Eric may have to take out half of what he would run while in Kansas City.

Howell does have talent, though. Also, the wide receiver room should take a massive step forward in 2023. Jahan Dotson projects to have a breakout season, Terry McLaurin is a legit WR1, and Curtis Samuel is as good of a slot receiver as there is in the NFL Tight end Logan Thomas is terrific. The offensive line is better than many believe. The Commanders averaged 126 rushing yards per game, ranking twelfth. The line should be even better after Bienemy institutes his pulling guard and tackle system.

Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson is your classic thunder and lightning running back duo. Both can catch the football, which gives Bienemy options. If Howell steps it up, the offense could surprise.

When it comes to the defense, it’s difficult to imagine a better D-line. Chase Young, Jared Allen, Jonathan Payne, and Montez Sweat make for a formidable front four. The linebacking unit is solid. The secondary is terrific.

On paper, Washington’s roster is talented and deep. But although the Commanders will be more competitive in 2023 than they were in 2022, D.C. will struggle to win more games than they lose.

The problem is the schedule. In addition to playing the Cowboys, Giants, and Eagles twice, te Commanders must throw down against AFC East teams Buffalo, Miami, New England, and the New York Jets.

The Seahawks are on the schedule. So are the San Francisco 49ers. Bienemy’s playbook, Howell’s talent, and Ron Rivera’s fantastic defense will lead to wins. Unfortunately, 7 wins is the ceiling.

Washington Commanders 2023 SU Record Prediction: 7-10

Washington Commanders 2023 Against the Spread Overview

The Commanders could be one of those rare teams that finishes with a losing straight up record but a winning against the spread record. Oddsmakers will set lines that devalue Washington’s ability to stop opposing offenses.

D.C. could win 11 or even 12 games against the spread. Our prediction is a flip of the SU predicted number, which means the Commanders go 10-7 ATS.

Washington Commanders ATS Record Prediction: 10-7

Washington Commanders 2023 Over/Under Overview

The Commanders went 5-11 over to under last season. Washington won’t post anything close to 5-11 this season.

Eric Bienemy calling the plays means Washington’s offense will be more efficient and score more points. We believe the record flips. D.C. games go 10-7 over to under.

Washington Commanders 2023 Over/Under Record Prediction: 10-7
