Who Are the Favorites to Win the 2021 EchoPark Texas Grand Prix?

Chase Elliott

Elliott tops the favorites for a good reason following his performance in previous weeks. On top of that, his five career victories on road courses make him the top candidate in this upcoming NASCAR: EchoPark Texas Grand Prix.

He is coming off a third-place finish at Dover, which sealed his fifth straight top-10 finish and his third straight top-7 finish in his last six races this season. As it stands, Chase sits at 7th in the 2021 Cup Series standings. He has been on full throttle on road courses, and we expect him to do well this coming Sunday.

Martin Truex Jr.

Truex sits on the 3rd spot of the 2021 Cup Series point standings, field best 3 wins on the season to date accompanied by 8 top 10 finishes. The driver is no stranger to road courses and records a best average finish of 5.44 over the previous 9 Cup Series races on road courses.

Truex trails behind Chase Elliott for 2nd best average driver rating in 9 road course events and lists 2 wins and 7 top 10 finishes. He is looking for redemption after a satisfactory finish at Dover a week ago. If he maintains composure, he can put pressure on Elliott and the rest of the front grid.

Who are the Sleepers to Win the 2021 EchoPark Texas Grand Prix?

William Byron

Despite holding onto the 2nd spot in the 2021 Cup Series standings, we find William Byron as one of the sleepers in this race. As it stands, he has the most top 10 finishes of any driver on the circuit with 11. This includes 5 top 5 finishes and a win at Homestead-Miami.

However, Byron has been inconsistent over the last 9 Cup Series road courses at 17.78. He makes up for this through his 9th best average driver rating of 88.8 in that window. William secured 4 top finishes in the 9 road course races for the Cup Series, so do not overlook his name come race day in Austin.

Matt DiBenedetto

Another sleeper in this race is DiBenedetto, who finished 19th at Darington and snatched 24th place at Dover, which concludes his last two starts. But, what makes him a threat is the fact that he had a three-race streak of top-10 finishes. Although he is yet to win in a road course race, his 4th place finish in the 2019 Toyota/Save Mart 350 held at Sonoma Raceway means he has the credentials to win. This season, the driver holds two top 5s and three top 10s with a total of 281 laps led.

Expert’s Prediction for the 2021 EchoPark Texas Grand Prix NASCAR Cup Series Race

Looking at drivers with strong course records alongside their recent performance is the key to making winning picks in this race. Since Elliott and Truex Jr. were present during tire testing at COTA, they have a slight advantage over the grid.

Truex bagged four career road course victories and finished sixth or better in four of his last six starts. The same goes for Elliott, who has an impressive road race career behind him. Meanwhile, William Byron and Matt DiBenedetto are two names that should not go unnoticed. The two might pull tricks up their sleeve and cause tension along the way, which could lead to surprising results.
