The holiday season can certainly be felt on the PGA TOUR, as the final tournament of 2022 is here with another installment of the QBE Shootout: an event featuring 24 golfers split into 12 teams of two. The pairing of Harris English and Matt Kuchar has won this event a record three times and is aiming for its fourth this week. However, there are several sleeper teams ready to become the next QBE Shootout co-champions even with a good number of them being first-timers at the event.

Max Homa and Kevin Kisner

The duo of Max Homa and Kevin Kisner are back for another run at QBE Shootout glory, with their T5 finish in last year’s debut appearance being a solid start. Furthermore, the two recently won the Presidents Cup in September as further proof that they get along rather nicely in such team format events. Homa, in particular, has been on a roll, picking up a victory at the top of the season at the Fortinet Championship, and has not finished worse than T23 in his next four starts.
Nelly Korda and Denny McCarthy

Making his debut in Naples is Denny McCarthy, whose 6-for-7 start for this PGA TOUR season with a T6 at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship as his biggest accomplishment thus far isn’t standing out. However, McCarthy’s teammate, 24-year-old wonder Nelly Korda, boosts this pairing’s chances to win the week’s tournament significantly. Korda, also a debutante at the QBE Shootout, was recently dethroned from the No. 1 position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings. However, her eight wins on the LPGA TOUR (one major) speaks volumes of her immense talent at a young age.
Tom Hoge and Sahith Theegala

We’ve often covered both Tom Hoge and Sahith Theegala in our weekly PGA TOUR sleeper column here, and the two are once again stellar dark horse picks as a unit for a change. Hoge began the season with a T4 finish in Vegas to go along with three other top-13 finishes. Meanwhile, Theegala’s T6, T3, and T2 showings in six tournaments played this season are also strong bodies of work, especially with that runner-up finish coming just a couple of weeks ago at the RSM Classic to give this pairing relative momentum heading into Florida.
