2022 Charles Schwab Challenge Recap

Sam Burns and Scottie Scheffler finished the four rounds both at -9. Burns beat Scheffler in the playoff to win the trophy. Scottie finished second.

Brendan Todd finished third at -8. Three players finished tied for fourth at -7: Tony Finau, Davis Riley, and Scott Stallings. Five players: Kevin Na, Jordan Spieth, Mito Pereira, Patrick Reed, and Cameron Davis, tied for seventh.

2023 Charles Schwab Challenge Top Pick

Nobody was going to beat LIV Golfer Brooks Koepka at Oak Hill this weekend. So Scottie Scheffler finishing second at the PGA Championship makes sense.

The fact Scottie rallied to shoot a 65 fourth-round after a 73 Round 3, tells us, Scheffler was focused on Sunday. He just couldn’t get to Brooks.

In any case, Scottie lost the 2022 Charles Schwab hardware to Sam Burns in a playoff. The world’s top-ranked golfer hasn’t won since taking the top prize at The Players Championship in early March. Scheffler is due.

2023 Charles Schwab Challenge Second Pick

Tony Finau finished a tied seventy-second at Oak Hill. The performance was bad. There’s no other way to describe it.

A closer look, though, reveals that Tony shot a 77 fourth round. So Finau took some chances on Sunday and it didn’t pan out.

Tony played great in this last season. He should return to steady ball-hitting ways. Give the second choice a big shot to lift the hardware.

2023 Charles Schwab Challenge Third Pick

Based on how Jordan Spieth played at the PGA Championship last week, he could be the player to beat. We’re not sure Spieth is ready to win this week’s tournament, which is why we have him third, but his PGA Championship run ended on a high-note for sure.

Jordan shot better with each subsequent round. He shot a 73 on Thursday, a 72 on Friday, a 71 on Saturday, and a 69 on Sunday. Improvement was evident.

If Spieth continues his path, he will be tough to keep from signing a Charles Schwab Challenge winning tournament card.

2023 Charles Schwab Challenge Underdog Pick

Last year, Sam Burns outdueled Scottie Scheffler to win the Charles Schwab. We shouldn’t look past the massive accomplishment.

The PGA made Scottie their player of the year and it wasn’t even close. So for Burns to beat Scheffler man-to-man in a playoff was huge.

Since playing great golf for much of the season, Burns has since missed the cut in the last couple of tournaments, the Wells Fargo and the PGA Championship. No doubt, Sam isn’t striking the ball well.

But it’s only a matter of time before Burns gets his swing together. Give Sam Burns a much better chance to win back-to-back Charles Schwab Challenge tournaments than the odds suggest.
