Why Bet on Anastasia Potapova?

After losing just three games in the opening round, Anastasia Potapova had a tougher time closing out her second-round opponent in the 2023 French Open, unseeded Mayar Sherif. 24th-seeded Potapova still managed to seal the deal with a final score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, as she made a strong run in the deciding set.

Potapova committed five double faults for the second straight outing to put her bid at Roland Garros at a bit of a risk. Then again, the 22-year-old recently reached a career-best World No. 24 ranking in April and is only improving as time goes on.

A 2021 win in Istanbul over fellow Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova gives Potapova the edge in their upcoming rematch. It just so happens that the Istanbul Open was also a tournament held on clay similar to the setting of their bout in Roland Garros this Friday.

Why Bet on Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova?

After a quick two-set victory in the opening round, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova was tested by her second-round opponent, Luidmila Samsonova. Thankfully, the 31-year-old WTA Tour veteran came out on top of a tense three-set battle against Samsonova, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.

Had it not been for contracting the COVID-19 virus followed by a lengthy knee injury, Pavlyuchenkova might’ve had a banner 2022 campaign. The Moscow native is slowly finding her form of late, winning at least one match in each of her last five tourney appearances and going 7-5 during that stretch.

Let’s not forget that it wasn’t long ago that Pavlyuchenkova made a spirited Cinderella run in Roland Garros, reaching the final round of the 2021 French Open and losing to fellow first-time finalist Barbora Krejcikova. Apart from that memorable run two years ago, though, Pavlyuchenkova’s last advanced to the third round of the French Open way back in 2012.

Anastasia Potapova vs. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova Betting Trends

  • Potapova is now 4-2 lifetime at the French Open.
  • Potapova has a 21-11 record for the season thus far.
  • Pavlyuchenkova has a 24-14 record in Roland Garros.
  • Pavlyuchenkova is 17-9 on clay since the 2021 season.

Potapova vs. Pavlyuchenkova Expert Betting Prediction

As the odds would suggest, this third-round clash is as close as it gets. While it’s tempting to go with the seeded entry in Potapova, we’re more inclined to side with Pavlyuchenkova, who’s been to a French Open final already. Although, we expect Potopova to put up a decent fight and require Pavlyuchenkova to close out their bout in three sets.
