2022 South Point 400 Recap

Tyler Reddick won the pole but didn’t finish in the top five. Reddick finished sixth. Joey Logano, who started fifth, crossed the finish line in first.

Ross Chastain followed Logano in second, followed by Kyle Busch, then driving for Joe Gibbs, in third. Chase Briscoe finished fourth and Denny Hamlin finished fifth.

After Reddick in sixth, Martin Truex Jr., Erik Jones, A.J. Allmendinger, and Austin Dillon finished seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth. This year’s South Point 400 race favorite, Kyle Larson, suffered an accident and finished thirty-fifth.

Top Choice to Win the 2023 South Point 400

Byron is on fire. Since a win at Watkins Glen, William and his crew haven’t missed a beat. Sure, there was the ninth at Bristol and the fifteenth at Kansas.

But other than those two decent but not great finishes, Byron has crossed the finish line fourth or better in every event. The fourth happened at Darlington.

Byron won at Texas and finished second at both Talladega and last Sunday over the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course. The odds are low but Byron is driving so well, he’s impossible to pick against for the top spot.

Second Choice to Win the 2023 South Point 400

After three straight finishes of twentieth or worse, Kyle Busch broke through with an excellent performance at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s road course.

Kyle had finished twentieth at Bristol, thirty-fourth at Texas, and twenty-fifth at Talladega. Busch drove great over the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course to finish third.

No doubt, Kyle could have won this last year. He finished third behind Chastain and Logano. Because he drove so well at Charlotte, and because he knows this track, we must take Busch seriously to lift the trophy on Sunday.

Third Choice to Win the 2023 South Point 400

Last year’s South Point 400 pole winner finished a decent sixth. With more luck, Reddick may have held on to the top position throughout the race.

On Sunday, Tyler will be ready. Reddick won at Kansas a few races ago. After a string of tough finishes, Tyler bounced back last week with a sixth. Like Kyle Busch, Reddick heads to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway driving well.

Top Underdog to Win the 2023 South Point 400

Joey Logano won the 2022 South Point 400. That alone makes him a decent underdog play to back to win Sunday’s event.

There are other reasons to like Joey, though. Logano finished fifth at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course last Sunday. And although Joey finished twenty-fourth at Talladega, he started second.

If Logano secures a good starting spot and has a consistent race, he may have a chance to score back-to-back to victories. At 30-to-1 odds, Logano is the best underdog pick on the board.
