With veteran backup quarterback Marcus Mariota set to start under center this season, aspirations aren’t as high for the Falcons this upcoming season as compared to previous years with Matt Ryan running the show. Atlanta’s outlook for the 2022 NFL season even got hazier after stud wide receiver Calvin Ridley was indefinitely suspended for the entire season due to gambling issues.
All things considered, though, the Falcons do have a pair of talents on offense who could very well give their team a fighting change for a postseason spot and beyond. The first is second-year tight end Kyle Pitts, who was selected by Atlanta with the fourth-overall pick in last year’s draft, making him the highest-drafted tight end in NFL Draft history. Early signs show that Pitts is well on his path towards becoming the next Rob Gronkowski or Tony Gonzalez, finishing with over 1,000 receiving yards on 68 catches during his impressive rookie campaign.
Another sleeper candidate to look out for is multi-talented offensive weapon Cordarrelle Patterson, who started a career-best 13 games in his ninth NFL season at 30 years of age and became Atlanta’s most versatile and dependable player on offense. Patterson split time as a running back and as a wide receiver in his first season as a Falcon and amassed over 1,100 offensive yards and 11 offensive touchdowns. Both Pitts and Patterson are currently priced at (+15,000) to win the 2022 NFL MVP award.
