Canadiens vs. Maple Leafs NHL Playoffs Odds and Game 5 Preview – May 27th, 2021

By Hank Blaine

Toronto is one step away from taking this series. After taking their first loss in Game 1, the Maple Leafs have made a big comeback, winning three straight in a row. We might be looking at four straight in a row if the Habs are able to take them at home. It’s already been hard enough to win, let alone on the road, which is their only win in this series.

Can Toronto finish things off early and make their pathway to the next round? Or will the Canadiens get another surprise win as visitors and extend the series to Game 6? Let’s dive into this Canadiens vs. Maple Leafs Game 5 matchup, along with the latest Stanley Cup odds, betting trends and expert predictions. Why Bet on the Montreal Canadiens?

If we look at the Habs overall performance in this series, well, they’ve lost their touch. They haven’t scored a goal since the second period of Game 3, with only four goals total in the series. They are not able to get the power play going. On Tuesday, they went 0 for 4 on the man advantage and are 0 for 13 just this series. They’ve also been outscored 7 to 1 and been outshot 55 to 26 in the middle frame. The only thing that could save them is Carey Price, who made 24 saves in Game 4.

Speaking of Price, he will have much pressure tonight. He has had the worst goal support with less than two goals per game in the last seven seasons. He currently holds a .920 save percentage in this postseason. Many think he will make the steal in tonight’s game, but with the Canadiens already in desperation mode, the weight will fall on the net.

Why Bet on the Toronto Maple Leafs?

The last three games have been clear on the dominance of the Maple Leafs. In just those three games, they outscored Montreal 11-2. And this current lead in the series with 3-1, Toronto has had 12 series in this position, winning to win all of them but one. But they haven’t been in this spot since 1987. It’s been a tough road back, but it has been going their way so far.

Goalie Jack Campbell has been superb. After their first loss in Game 1, things shifted and since then, Toronto hasn’t lost, only allowing two goals in those three victories that came afterwards. He got a shutout in Game 4, stopping 32 shots, making it his first ever career playoff shutout. If the defensive plays like they did on Tuesday, Campbell shouldn’t have much to worry about.

Canadiens vs. Maple Leafs Betting Trends

  • The Canadiens are 1-8 SU in the last 9 games.

  • The Maple Leafs are 10-4 SU in the last 14 games.
  • The Maple Leafs are 5-1 SU in the last 6 games at home.
  • The totals went under in 4 of Toronto’s last 5 games against Montreal.

Canadiens vs. Maple Leafs Expert Betting Predictions

Montreal will try anything to get the win. But it’s not going to be an easy feat. Playing on the road is already tough but with just this loss. It will all be over. But then again, we’ve already seen the same situation in other series and the losing teams have been able to pick up the pace and get back on track. This could be one of those exact cases. Let’s just see were the Habs stand against the Leafs tonight.
