Why Bet on the Dallas Cowboys?

The Dallas Cowboys keep pace with the rest of the top-heavy NFC East after picking up a massive 49-29 victory over the Chicago Bears in Week 8. That’s two wins in a row for the Cowboys, whose only loss over their last seven outings came against their heated division rival in the still-unbeaten Philadelphia Eagles and are now fresh off their scheduled bye.

Dak Prescott looked crisp in his second game back from injury, completing 21 of 27 passes for 250 yards and two passing touchdowns albeit with one clumsy interception. Prescott wasn’t the real star for Dallas that afternoon, though, as running back Tony Pollard torched a supposedly stout Chicago front seven to the tune of 131 rushing yards and three trips to the end zone on just 14 carries.

Even after giving up 29 points to the Bears, the Cowboys still have the third-best scoring defense in the NFL (16.6 PAPG). With a strong running game and a stout stop unit that’s also first in the league with 33 sacks for the season, America’s Team will likely prevail in a grind-it-out slugfest against the Packers regardless of the weather in notoriously wintry Lambeau this week.

Why Bet on the Green Bay Packers?

There’s no end in sight concerning the downfall of the Green Bay Packers, who’ve now lost five straight games. To make matters worst, their 15-9 defeat to lowly division rival the Detroit Lions in Week 9 is humiliating, to say the least.

Aaron Rodgers had a shot to exploit the NFL’s worst defense and was a total letdown yet again. Rodgers threw three picks despite racking up 291 passing yards and one end-zone connection to wide receiver Allen Lazard. The reigning league MVP also led his team in rushing with 40 yards on the ground, which is more of an indictment of Green Bay’s questionable running game.

As a silver lining of sorts, at least the Packers’ defense has slowly improved over the past two weeks, allowing just an average of 16 points in their matchups against the Lions and Bills. Green Bay has the second-best pass defense in the league right now allowing just an average of 170.6 passing yards to opponents this season, but the team’s run D is ranked in the bottom third of the league. It’ll be interesting to see how the Cowboys plan to attack the Packers’ unbalanced defense.

It’s tough betting against the Cowboys who are hot off a convincing blowout win, are well-rested from their bye, and have a tasty matchup against a spiraling Green Bay side. On the other hand, Green Bay is a different team in the confines of their own home turf and has also gotten the better of Dallas in the Rodgers era. The Cowboys should still win this contest, but the Packers should also put up a better fight and manage to cover the spread as rare home dogs.
