Why Bet on the Philadelphia Eagles?

After a dominant showing in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons, the Philadelphia Eagles are now on a three-game losing streak. They’re 42-30 defeat on the road in Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs goes to show that the first-year head coach Nick Siriani and Eagles still have a lot of work to do in terms of getting the right balance from the squad.

All things considered, second-year quarterback Jalen Hurts looked great at matching Patrick Mahomes in the battle for air yardage. Hurts finished with 387 yards and two touchdowns on 32-of-48 passing without a pick. And despite rookie wideout Devonta Smith not finding the end zone, the 2020 Heisman Trophy winner still led all Philadelphia receivers with seven catches for 122 yards.

Unfortunately, the Eagles’ defense has not been at its best of late. After allowing just 23 points over the first two games, Philly’s D has since allowed over 40 points apiece to the Cowboys and Chiefs.

Why Bet on the Carolina Panthers?

Is the Carolina Panthers’ stout run defense a mere facade after all? After allowing the fewest rushing yards through the first three weeks, the Panthers crashed back down to earth after the Dallas Cowboys handed them their first loss of the season on Sunday, 42-30. Carolina got gashed by Dallas’ running attack, with Ezekiel Elliott rumbling for 143 rushing yards and a TD on 20 carries.

The Cowboys combined for 244 yards on the ground after the Panthers surrendered no more than 50 rushing yards to each of their first three opponents. Thankfully, the Eagles don’t possess a sound running game themselves, making Week 5’s matchup a tad more favorable for the home team. Expectations are also high on Sam Darnold to deliver another solid performance under center.

Darnold pulled an Abraham Lincoln against the Cowboys last Sunday with his four scores; two through the air and two with his feet. The former USC standout currently leads the NFL with his five rushing TDs and will be a stiff test for the Philadelphia offense to try and contain despite the Panthers still missing their starting running back, Christian McCaffrey due to injury.

Eagles vs. Panthers Betting Trends

  • The Eagles are 1-7 in their last eight road games (SU/ATS).
  • The Eagles are 2-3 in their last five meetings against Carolina (SU/ATS).
  • The totals have gone over in five of Philly’s last eight games in general.
  • Although the Panthers are just 3-5 in their last eight home games (SU/ATS), two of those three wins came in succession earlier this season.
  • The Panthers are 4-3 against NFC East teams since 2018 (3-4 ATS).
  • The totals have gone under in five of Carolina’s last eight games on home field.

Eagles vs. Panthers Expert Betting Predictions

Neither Philadelphia nor Carolina has momentum heading into Week 5. In turn, the Panthers’ edge as favorites in this matchup is basically based on the instant handicap given in favor of the home team. That being said, the Eagles might make for a solid pick to win as underdogs this Sunday after their passing offense was great against the Chiefs and with the Panthers defense showing some cracks. On the other hand, the Eagles’ own struggling stop unit might not be capable of containing Darnold’s resurgence as a top-tier NFL QB early this season.
