Why Bet on the Iowa State Cyclones?

Most regard the Big 12 as this season’s best men’s college basketball conference. Although Baylor fell to North Carolina in their second round game, Kansas, Texas Tech, and Iowa State all made the Sweet 16. The Cyclones didn’t end their season on a high note. But so far in the tournament, they’ve rocked it. The Cyclones’ defense allowed LSU to score just 54 points. Then versus highly-regarded Wisconsin, Iowa State held the Badgers to 49 points. Miami should have a tough time breaking down the Cyclones’ defense.

The Hurricanes outlasted USC in the first round and then blew out 2-seed Auburn in the second. Miami is getting better with each game. Iowa State will find it difficult to contain all of Miami’s shooters.

The spread line says this is a close game. But after much handicapping, it’s difficult to make a case for the Cyclones. Yes, Iowa State held Wisconsin to 49 points. However, the Badgers shoot less than 42% from the field and less than 32% from three on average. Also, Wisconsin is a one-man team. If you stop, or even just contain, Jonathan Davis, you can beat Wisconsin. Davis scored 17 against the Cyclones. That wasn’t nearly enough.

In Iowa State’s first NCAA Tournament game, they beat an overrated LSU squad. The entire SEC is overrated. Only Arkansas made it to the Sweet 16. So Iowa State beat a couple of teams that the Selection Committee gave too much respect while Miami dropped the third best team in the Pac-12, USC, and dominated the best team or second best team from the SEC, Auburn. Not only that, but the Hurricanes beat a couple of Sweet 16 teams this season, Duke on the road 76-74 and North Carolina at home 85-57. The Canes should roll the Cyclones. The -2.5 makes Miami an overlay.
